  5. I Breed, show and work my dogs and i believe without the pet market it just wouldent be viable for me to have a litter of pups. Id rather a puppy of mine went to a good pet home for life then a working home where it may end up in a rescue centre when its working days are over or if it gets injured etc. There are lots of decent working dog people who keep there dogs for life and also alot that just keep them whilst they are working well for them.
  6. There is a farm near us that has a clear out of hens twice a year because the supermarket they are contracted to insist on this, we always have about 20-30 hens we still have most of last years hens and they are laying like mad at the moment. If you keep horses and you want to help keep the worm burden down then my vet reckons hens are a good organic way to help with worms in horses as they scratch away in the dung patches. I feed my hens very little bought in feed but then we have the land to let them roam and scratch around for natural food so our eggs are almost cost free. You cant be
  7. About 6 months ago somebody was building some kennels and they put the plans on here does anyone remember who it was. We are planning on building some kennels on our farm and we need some idea's. On a different subject we are having a right battle with the local planners, we want to convert a barn on our farm to a family home and the planning have said no they want two holiday home there instead !! as if there are not enough holiday homes around here at the moment, we are in South Devon i was just wondering what the planners are like in different parts of the country. At this rate a local

  9. Its my pup on epupz but hes now gone, terriermaid used one of my dogs a few weeks ago on her whippet bitch thats she's doing all the coursing with, contact her we have friends that go to shows all over the Uk that might be able to deliver a pup for you.
  10. Yes there is just something about watching a hound chasing something, even better when you watch hounds with in a pack working.
  11. Yes ive got alot of old dogs and too many nice youngsters at the moment, my 4 kids all help out with the dogs, im expecting baby number 5 in january so i will have to look at a back pack to put it in whilst im walking the dogs.
  12. Grockles get said a few times a day in my house at the moment, there a right pain!! they dont know how to reverse around our lanes with Devon Banks and when they see us out on our horses in the lanes they go to bits !!!
  13. Your rural life sounds lovely, at this time of year with all the holiday makers around i wish my life was a bit more rural. I dont deny its great. Only thing about it is if i have an accident noone would know about it. Last winter was a bitch with gales and doing the horses, dogs and other beasts while slates are coming off the roof in the dark was a fair bit scary.Got knocked down by one of the horses thought the end was ngh In the summer at the weekend we too get walkers (or bonglies as they are not so affectiontly known) who think its ok to trapse through the yard instead of us
  14. 18 dogs wow can i ask what they all are please ? Whippets, Bedlingtons, and whippet/Bedlington Crosses. Ive got 6 Generations of my Whippet breeding and 4 Generations of my Bedlingtons

  16. Thats nice kennel maid you are involving your son in with the dogs. Ive got 18 dogs at the moment and a litter of 3 day old Bedlingtons. My partner has a 200 acre farm but i just cannot get him interested in coming out lamping with me, its a shame because the farm is over run with rabbits. My Son who is 15 loves all the country stuff but my daughters dont seem so keen, all the mums at school think im mad because i get so excited about working my dogs and my dogs in general. Countrymaid
  17. Is it all guys on this site, ive been on this site for a few months now and it all seems to be guys that talk about there dogs. Ive been involved in working dogs all of my life, i was brought up around a shoot in rural Devon but im now involved with hounds/whippets/bedlingtons. Come on the rest of the lasses on this site tell us about yourselves and your dogs!!
  18. Border Terrier Puppy/youngster wanted i would prefer KC papers with it, must be good with children. Devon
  19. My Swedish Friends give there whippets a syringe of it evrey time they race there whippets they swear by it
  20. The Neighbouring farmer has given me permission to go on his land and take some photo's of these pens where the foxes are being kept. Im also going to contact the legal department of the countryside alliance to see if they can suggest anything. All the local farmers are involved with the hunt around here and all are so upset that this man has been doing this under our noses for some years now.
  21. Yes thats what i mean there is a poultry farm near us with over 3000 free range hens, these foxes dont think like country foxes they will attempt most things and they have no fear of humans. Some of us around here need to earn a living, i earn a little money from the sale of eggs and that goes towards keeping my dogs. Its just not fair!! all this
  22. Its the RSPCA at westhatch in somerset Yes these are foxes that have come from Bristol or somewhere like that, as an animal lover its so sad to see these foxes die slowly over weeks they call themselves animal lovers that charity
  23. South Devon, yes im sure i could get plenty of offers for help here. But i feel what he is doing is so wrong, all the local farmers are in up roar about this
  24. My whippets are always ripping themselves open, usually on wire or just recently in hedges. Ive now discovered im wasting my time and money having them stitched, i just make sure the wound is clean and then cover it with that plastic skin you can buy in tesco's it heals in weeks rather then months.
  25. Yes thats an option, but why should he be allowed to do this and have the backing of a large well known charity.
