i would have to disagree with you. some dogs are just downright twats. and no amount of socialising will change them .
totally different shapes in head/body wise and temperments-folks bang on about wheatens being dog aggressive... Everyone I've been around has been good as gold, only interested in the job at hand. If a dogs nasty with others then that's down to a bad owner imo. Atb dcIs there much difference between the Wheaten, and the Irish terrier
first image is Darcey. quarter wheaten. second is ozzy. first cross.
pic of baby and lurcher in second pic is brilliant cracker of dog too good square head on him

S.T. Is out plenty with guns ,hunts 12 months of the year ,prone too exaggerate numbers caught and telling wee white lies ,but nobody will tell him that lol
that's a fact
would his name be s.t. if so he wouldn't have guns out no matter wat
Must be different men these lads I know don't like lads shooting them.
I haven't hunted with them for a few years but always thought they had a gun or two out for those corners not suitable for a lurcher.
There's a hunting man in the North who with his small pack of hounds and lurchers accounts for 3 or 4 hundred foxes each season and if I remember correctly I think he told me a few years back that he had 30 out of roofs one year. Not many places about me that you could work bales compared to other folk, but we've put them out of roofs of old houses on a regular basis over the years. They hold at certain times depending on weather conditions and temperature. I mind standing with my back to the wall of an old stone cottage, I was in my late teens with my 7/8s grey 1/8th bedlington I had at the time, wondering what I was to expect. Window to the right of me another to the left. Waiting on a fox jump out of the window, usually they don't but it's not uncommon, I wasn't to know. A terrier was put into the roof from the rear, nothing for a while but you could hear the dog searching threw the roof. You where told to be quiet even approaching the building never mind speak, took a few mins then the terrier was on, few barks and you knew there was hunt in it. A fox ran around the gable of the house towards me, a dog was already on its tail. I held up. Just as well. A fox came out off the roof right over the top of my head and landed right in front of me. We killed 4 out off that roof that morning, 2 out of the next roof less than 100 yards away down the same lane. Some crack at the time. You'd be wasting your time trying roofs at certain times off the year, as they only hold under certain conditions.
Is it the same with working bales?
They where good times. It takes a certain type off terrier to run a roof mind you, not all terriers liked being threw up into heights threw windows or floorboards or unstable crevices, not natural surroundings by any means.
assuming he would he have guns with him too Neil?
I've been out few times wit him. and I was there one day he wouldn't even let lad stand wit two lurcher s on a hedge had to be single. as for gun s I never seen guns out ever when I was there . I seen giving gun club lad dig in mouth up that way for telling him he not allowed on land and he had full permission was funny as f**k. he is a header but sound skin I think.

Farmer phoned me late afternoon ,we are moving a shed can you get here lol. Planning is not his forte .Rang daughters boyfriend who has the choc pup I was gifted and to bring the lurcher too .5 dogs in all .My two, Aaron's two and the farmers Russel cross spaniel which to be fair is a decent Ratter now .
The usual wait for them to get set up and then panic ,there's a cat under the shed ,one of the farmers pets. Luckily only his dog out yet which half heartedly chased the cat out from under and into a hedge nearby unseen by ours .The action was good from the off but tailed off near the front the shed where the shit was soaked through by a leaky drinker .Finished with 73 and both pups well into the sport .Happy days .
lurcher is nice type. wat way he bred

"Dutch" as a old fat dog ,,,he was one of the smallest Staffords Iv seen ,,,, if the same "Dutch" you mentioned..Working lines DogMan, they're still out there and in the right hands too.
It's a pity a few peddlers got their hands on them a few years ago but they're still out there.
One little red Staff we used to dig to ,Dutch, was around 18 lbs if I remember correctly and if you crowned in behind him he'd be lying on his back with his four feet on the roof of the tube and his mouth full. He was a cracker and safe with terriers too.
In those days we always started in July and often went for a pint (although I was too young to drink) after digging and we'd leave the van outside the pub with the windows open for the terriers bu we used to bring the strong dog into the pub in case of an accident.
A muddy bloody strong dog and no one would look twice.
My job would be check on the dogs in the van every few minutes.
Lord, I miss my strong dogs.
any post you put up is always good post mainly from years ago I enjoy your photos fair play
