im beginning to think this is a wind up honestly mate, if your terrier has as good a nose as you say in your other posts , the last thing you want to be doing at night is lamping with it. it will probably hunt up and, youll be blue in the face tryin to catch it, , unless your recall is spot on and it returns to you...all the best with the wee dog.
sorry to sound so daft.

thanks for the advise, and yes I have a new bsa supersport which has taken many rabbitts, also talking of bushing When shooting rabbits at night I often hear them creaping in the bushes which obviousley I cant gett with a gun would it be an idea to get my tterrier in there as I am desprate for him to get a rabbit.
say if your walking trough a field, hedge etc and a rabbit breaks cover 20-25 feet ahead and the dog chases it would it catch ithi all,
I like the idea of lamping with dogs as I have already done it with a gun and enjoyed myself. do you thing a terrier could cope with it. Im not looking to bag loads doing it more for fun. My lakelands about 16 inches may be a tad more if this helps. thanks.
if your terrier speaks when chasing rabbits expect a short night.
sorry, what do you mean a short night
meaning every rabbit for a mile around will know you are there(if he yaps at night when chasing rabbit)
I also know of a farm workers border in a place called tenderton in kent who use to chase and kill rabbits
just tryin to give a bit of advice.darren67 is spot on for the same reason
my personal opinion no but some may own some that will i've got a very big roughly 18" terrier thats now 13 and over all them years he has'nt caught many rabbits not fit ones anyway and he was a quick.(for a terrier in his time)dog horses for courses i think.take some ones earlier advice and try and get a lurcher.the chase can be as good as the catch though so got to be your choice. stick to bushing in the day and go out with a gun at night and leave your terrier at home.ever thought of an air rifle.?

it will catch the sitters in the back end but dont let the lurcher men catch you, youll make every thing lamp shy :black eye: :11: atb
yes, He nearly got some sitting rabbits which he saw from the middle of the field but they were only about 8 feet away from a hole and there were about 3 of them. also how will it make them lamp shy?.

ffew pics of my dog he is 3/4 patterdale 1/4 border and he has been castrated that is why he is a bit spindly. he was bought as a pet his sire is worker (not below ground) nd his mum is a pet. i use him forr working he is great at ratting and bushing but [bANNED TEXT] he bushes it is a bit pointless because i have no lurcher or similar to catch them!! but his prey drivee is exceptional.
atb joel
p.s. i know his collar looks a bot tight but he used too wear a harness so the furn on his shoulder area is longer and rougher
where are the pictures?.

may be, but I find bushing/lamping rabbits more of a susspense.
thanks, would bushing rabbits at night be an option or looking around farm buildings eg apple crates or abbanoded barns as I often see rabbits going under. because in one of the country mans weekly it said that a pair of patterdales were fast enough to run a lamp.
-
get some ratting permission and lamp them.
mine catch the occasional rabbit at night whilst out ratting but its rare.you might get the odd one that sits tight and the odd mixy one.if you want to go hunting with your terriers at night and therefore increase the amount of time available to hunt them then rats are the way to go mate. :thumbs:thanks, would bushing rabbits at night be an option or looking around farm buildings eg apple crates or abbanoded barns as I often see rabbits going under.

hi all, does anyone know of a lakeland terrier breeder called steven trollope in the Horley area[surrey] he uses a white bitch and a black and tan dog I believe he got the bitch from Ireland, belfast I think, as I have a friend who is impressed and is interested in a pup from him and he cant seem to get hold of him. Thanks.

thanks for the offer but dont worry.were are you mate i mite be able to help you out bushin

hi everyone, I have a nineteen month white lakeland terrier. Although I go shooting alot I want to take my terrier and my cousins lakie cross bushing as the breeder that we got my terrier from in Horley, used his terriers for ratting/rabbiting. What would I need to do in terms of finding the rabbit eg walk near to a headge where I suspect rabbits to be hiding. I have already taken him out just to see what his reaction would be, he saw two near the edge of a field and whent for them, but they were to close to their holes he is also keen around rabbit holes aswell and marks them. I know his got a fairly good nose after discovering a mouse nest under a shed and holds his head down rabbit holes for ages sniffing. Also do you think he or both will be fast enough for a lamp. if so what should I do.
