Zeroing NV scope?
Leicester hunter replied to Leicester hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
didnt manage to get out yet, but had a quick glance on one of my permissions, and have to say i was very impressed with the performance, albeit a gen1. I could see clearly to about 100 yds with the on board IR, and about 175 yds with the additional IR lamp. Theres a set about 145 yds from the road, and i could see rabbits clear as anything. (It was a fairly clear night with little cloud cover) Cant wait to use it for real! -
Ah but Mythbusters failed to get one to go off by using it as a car fuse so it can't happen, it's official! But they didnt short circuit it, they just ran it inline! Goto youtube and type mythbusters bloopers, and theres a sketch where Jamie short circuited it while Adam was still holding it and it went off! (accidentaly of course)

I have a guntuff from js Ramsbottom on ebay, and have to say its changed my night shooting! I was forever miss calculating ranges at night. The unit is so easy to use, you just look through the eyepiece, put the cross hair/dot on the target and press the button. The range is instantly viewable in the eye piece. I found that checking my own guess's during the day were pretty good, but at night i was out by 15-20 yards! The guntuff unit has a range of 400 yards, and is water resistant and comes in a carry case and a lanyard. Well worth the money. Mail me if you want the link. im sure -

thats great thanks, Ill give that a go tonight. Cheers, -
So, permission. We need it. For some its hard, and others its impossible! Just a quick message... Whilst driving back from work, i noticed that there were a couple of fields absolutely FULL of pigeons, feeding on rape. There must have been 4-5000 birds. The next day, i happened to mention it in passing to somebody at work, and he said he knew whos fields they were, but also said he hasnt seem/spoken to him in a long time. I got the farmers name, found his phone number and called. "Hi, its xxxx from xxxx, just happened to notice that youve obviously got a pigeon problem at x

Hi All, Ive just bought my first NV scope, and i know not to remove the cover during daylight etc, my question is can these be zeroed during the day? i ask because im not sure what the small hole (approx 2-3mm) is for in the centre of the front flip up cover? Can the unit be switched on during the day with the cover on so the hole lets enough light into see, but not damage the tube? Any help please?

Well i thought seeings how the Rimmy and CF boys have a section devoted to this, why not let the Air gun lads have a go? Lets see all of your rigs and kit!

Get out there and knock on doors fella. This post has been covered many a time. Although you will be helping the farmers and landowners, you have to gain their trust. They cannot be expected to let anybody onto their land "willy nilly" as they have too much to lose. Dress casual (not cammos) prepare some cards, and get insured via BASC or the like. Just ask if they have pest control and if you can assist, it also doesnt go amiss offering to help out with some FOC work like fixing fences etc. It WILL be a tough process, and 1 in every 10 calls MAY get you somewhere. There is def

"bot quick" - That made me laugh! My FEO actually interviewed me with my SG and was very friendly and helpful. Its handy as well as the FEO for my address, is also the FEO for the unchecked land im applying for. < remembers to proof read in future. -

< UPDATE, Well, only sent my application in a week ago last friday, and i have my interview and land check on Monday morning coming! Thought this was a bot quick? not complaining though. Going out Door Knocking
Leicester hunter replied to Treacle Trackpad's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Dont go at meal times or on a Sunday. Although most farmers work on Sundays, its still their peace day. They work very hard and do not want disturbing on the little time they have with their families. Good luck -
Just got in from a good nights lamping

Cheers for the advice fellas. < feels kinda stupid now! -
just missed a mint Yukon 2.5x50 Tactical nightvision scope on fleabay for £250 with additional Yukon IR torch. I am new to the NV scene so wondered of you could answer 2 questions..... 1) WOULD this have been a good buy? 2)Are these scopes any good? I know you pay for what you get, but as stated, im just looking at starting this due to increasing issues with lamp shy quarry. Cheers all,

How do you get on with these in the Superten mate? I have the bullbarrel version and have used accupel for many years now, but now they have swapped to premier i am looking for a change. Dont get me wrong, why change when it aint broke i know, but find they do drop a little more than id like them to, Cheers -

Well, like a bus you wait for a permission for ages, then they all come at once!! I am currently applying for my FAC, (after getting my first permission) and still do a lot of lamping with my air rifle. (on other small permissions). Late last week i got given some more permission, and last night i had a wander about to see whats what. The air was mild, and a gentle SW breeze enabled me to creep into the permission to my advantage. After a couple of flicks with the lamp, the returning sight was that of many a pair of red dots. Superb i thought, at least theres rabbits! I continued to w -
Obviously they are for use at night, but can you use them as a day scope as well? or do you have to keep changing between the two?
-
Very mature post, i wish you the best of luck. I hope beer and women dont lead you too far astray from the sport you obviously love!
-
as the guys above have said. Plus, you obviously need written permission from the landowner on the passed land. As far as im remember, my FEO said it doesnt matter how many shoot on the passed land(within reason) Also having SGC only 1 yr is no problem whatsoever, i would say its an advantage as you have already had some background checks etc. Again, DONT reccommend 17 for fox, but long range rabbit. good luck
-
Hi mate and welcome. Assuming that you have a licence, land with permission (written and passed for calibre by police etc etc) the choice really is yours. What i mean is, what type of shooting are you into? Vermin/target? The .22 is great for rabbit/pigeon etc to about 60 yds in reality. Anything over 60 yds (upto 120-150) the .17HMR will excel due to the difference in "fire power". Generally on a first application (if you havent got already) most people (i believe) will say apply for both. .22 for shorter range and .17 for longer range. Hope this is a little help.
