  1. going up on the hills tomorrow and see if there is anything about i cant get out with the ferrets on my own just incase i have to dig and i dont have anyone to go with untill weekend so will try to get him on something this week and just keep trying and see what happens

i am ab out the week end i think , so i may be able to go out with you ?

cheers mate i have arranged to go out with emma but your welcome to come to mate. went out today just kicking through the nettles and got 3 chases at some rabbits 1st one he only half chased really but it was a fast rabbit and went up hill the next 2 was very close and the rabbit just made it underground. So we finished on the lure that was placed in a rabbit hole and a bit of cover and i got my son to drag it while i walked by just so he finished on a good note and felt like he caught something.

  2. any bird u want its all about the quarry u got to go at the time you got to fly ,reason i say any is you should have the knowlage and bird management to fly any .so get a mentor that knows what he is doing and u wont go wrong or do what alot do and just get a harris and then try learning from then on wards :censored:

What if he cant get a mentor thats near him ?? are you offering to mentor him then mate ? Like he says mate get a harris hawk like the rest of us useless twats and just hope for the best mate thats what we all do.

  3. what centre are you going to be doing it at as i spend alot of time (there at the mo) in york and i went to this place http://www.falconrycentre.co.uk/ a few months ago and i got chatting to the owner and after about 30mins of chatting he said it was a bird zoo lol ,as i was having a brew in the office i was listeneing to the woman behind the counter and i was all about money .

WELL WE DID OUR COURSE TODAY, GOTTA SAY THE STAFF THERE WERE VERY GOOD AND TO TOP IT OFF THE GUY THAT WORKS THERE SAID HE LIVES IN RIPON AND I CAN GO OUT WITH HIM AND HIS MATE WHEN THEY TAKE THEIR HH's OUT, TOP DAY!

quality mate fair play did you get much more done on your mews mate? good you got someone to go out with now too

  4. not at all as he is a pr bird and not a imprint ,id get him out killing now with someone as i say the first yr is so important and u want him killing cos he could end up vocal also but up to you, i suffer very bad with my back and take 22 pills aday to keep me going and sometimes they dont get rid of the pain so i know exactly what back pain is like

Fair comment but will see how the recovery goes first mate i will be in hospital 3 to 5 days and will know by then. last time i was back on my feet in a week but made the mistake going back to work 7 days farming within 4 weeks straight after the staples were taken out but i have decided im not going back to work this year even if it feels good as its the healing process that can make the back worse as the internal scaring causes problems but if the op doesnt go well i will know straight away and will then let him go probably for the whole season.

  5. good luck with the op if it was me id lend the bird out to someone with experiance and ge tthem to get him kilomg as thew first yr is so importemt in in a bird as this is where alot of muscle is grown and experiance can and should be learn then once he is killing good and muscle put on u can leave him alone

cheers mate i have had offers from a couple of people who said they will take him for me but i think im going to just see how it goes first if im out to long then i will let someone take him out for me but will see how it all goes first of all but for now ill get the 2nd door on and finish boarding out the mews and free loft him i think. if i let him go to someone while im out could this effect my relationship with him or not ??

  6. The best of luck from me with your back issues mate and i hope all goes according to plan.. ..i know you don't want to here this but forget about Thor for now and get yourself fixed because neither of you are any good too each other unfit or recovering..

    Cheer's

    Millet

i know mate just really gutted mate but i understand what your saying and agree with you just going to get him out as much as poss now while i can. im bloody nervous because having the 2nd op carries double the risk of making the back worse but have no choice. and thank you very much for your comments mate and very much appreciated

  7. just a little update on Thor ive been fflying him all week at 1lb 5 1/4 oz and is doing great hes been flying around and over me waiting for me to call him in and Thor and the dog are totally happy to be out together even with the dog off the lead. Thor is following on brilliant now and this week he has decided my head and shoulder is a good perch but ive been trying to put him off and is getting the message but the kids find it funny and Thor even landed on my 3 year old which did give him a shock at first but was stood there saying Thor thinks im a tree haha bless him wish i had the camera. decided im not going to try and enter him now till i get out of hospital and get him free lofted hopefully next week so my mrs can feed him through the food shoot and not bugger up my hard work haha.

  9. Why not get a hawking trailer mate no mess then just put the birds in and away you go, funny enough i have one for sale ha ha sorry couldnt resist but its an option

fair play mate but i have a trailer i could turn into a hawking trailer but need some thing for the dog and im thinking of getting a 2nd dog next year and i also need a 4x4 mate good luck in selling it though mate

  10. Depends largel;y on the sprt of land and quarry you wish to hunt mate, big open land maybe suggests a falcon, especially if you say after feathered quarry, land with woods hedges etc would likely suit a hawk more. The Harris is an ideal starter bird, i doubt i would have took up this sport any time before i retiured unless Id seen Harris being used in the field by a friend. They a very versatile bird and take a good range of quarry if you get the right ones, fully fit they even better, most Im told never get the best out of them before moving onto what maybe considered better birds.

Get yourself a copy of P Glasier book Falconry and Hawking, its a real good read and if I was learning from one book that would be the one for me.

Id also avoid visiting the IFF site as they will do there utmost to put you off

agree 100% about staying away from the IFF mate most on there think they were born with a hawk on there fist mate and will rip you apart when asking questions its a bit more quite on here but some really good lads with lots of experience.

  11. just looking for abit of info as im thinking about geting a bird but not show what to get yet what would be the best to start out with.. what sort of space will it need ect

hi mate im no expert got my first bird this year but look on my diary mate you might get some advise on there as i had some good lads help me out and you can see the living quaters and so on i went for a harris hawk male and over the moon with him mate. if your starting from scratch its not cheap i paid 250 fot my bird but if you want a female it will be more 300 for a 2nd hand telemetry kit my mews is about 9ft wide 12ft long 71/2ft high at the back and cost me the best part of 800 maybe more from start to finish and i done the work myself you could pick up a 2nd hand bow perch for 20 bath 10 then weighing scales i would spend the most you can afford on them i paid about 65 i brought a 2nd hand ben long perch for the scales and brought new scales, vest shop around i paid about 30 the list goes on mate but i think for everything i have got so far i spent about 1700. as with which bird to go for ill leave that to people with more experience than me to give advise on that mate good luck with what ever you go for mate if you go ahead i dont think you will regret it mate i love it and very happy with the harris hawk mate but it suits my needs and ground i have all the best mate

  13. After the bottom end went on my 04 navara and the bad response from the nissan dealer's i would never have a nissan vehicle every again...but saying that my brother did have a pathfinder about 2yr's ago and it was a awsome motor..good on the fuel electric everything and really comfortable on the road..it was not too clever off road though but then again it only had road tyre's on it..i dont think you would be disappointed if you got one..

your the 2nd person this week ive heard say nissan have bad after sales service. if we do get one it will be 2nd hand one with full dealer service history but will wait till afer tomorrow before i can go ahead.
