  1. Yes, do people [really] have the [time+work] for [2] dogs. Its ok saying if one gets hurt, i have the other dog.But ive had dogs [yes] some seem to get hurt very quick, and then ive some dogs can go all season and never get hurt.? And another [big problem] is you will always favour one dog more than the other it just happens, so you tend to work that dog [more] than the other fact. And i think one dog will [bond] 100% to you, than having 2 dogs. This the 1st time ive had 1 dog, most times i used to keep 2 dogs. And it i think its alot better. Ok there will come a time when you have to bring in
  2. i am not saying that you CANT have a working dog as a pet, obviously you can,its just how you see it thats all, never known one dog to be any worse or even better, just because it lives indoors, thats all im saying
  3. i have also found trying to train two pups then bring them on fully does have its moments, and for me never to be repeated, thanks
  4. some good points there mate,i generally use a certain type of dog for the larger quarry pre-ban of course, and try and have what i deem as a more general all rounder, this is my own personel reason for having more than one dog
  5. hi all i was just thinking how many of you keep more than one dog and what DISADVANTAGES do you find, the advantages we all know,if one gets knocked up for example, easier to bring another dog on with an experienced dog ect ect,but do the advantages out weigh the disadvantages, common probs iv found over the years are, kenneling two like minded dogs together may cause problems, jealousy over quarry just to name a couple, whats your thoughts on this, thanks recce PLEASE,DISADVANTAGES ONLY
  6. rosettes dont feed the dogs a freezer full of game does,i would not entertain a show to be honest, prob down to the fact i dont need someone else telling me how good,or indeed how bad my dogs are while im trying to pull its head off on the lead and worrying about how it looks while standing there
  7. i do not class my working dogs as pets ,not to say i dont try and give them the best i can, feeding, kenneling ect,iv lost a few good dogs over the years and have been gutted on more than one occasion, but this is the game we are in and losses are all to frequant,a pet dog imo is a family dog, indoors comfort for the wife and kids ect,yet i suppose the definition of pet can be interpreted in different ways,i dont have to come home and face the family with bad news ref loosing another dog that they may have all become attached to,just my oppinion thats all
  8. i would agree,he is a breeder of this x,i have seen good dogs from his stock in the past, very handy dogs, but be prepared for all the flack that goes with bying one of his,you will get nothing but bad comments from the so called lurcher fraternity on here, this is only an observation from reading other posts on here ref his dogs,i for one have never been into so called good stock from named dogs, you will only get out of a dog what you put in,but this is only my oppinion, good luck in your search
  9. i would only be feeding a dog of this age one meal a day,the problem may be your feeding it to late in the day, feed in morning, and obviously take it out as late at night as you can, then up and out again first thing in morning, maybe you could confine her in the bed at night,it would be reluctant to soil its bedding, not trying to teach you to suck eggs mate, just a thought
  10. if he is coming round to inspect your cabinet,am i right to presume you have all ready been given the go ahead for your licence,if so he will just want to see that it is secured to an internal wall out of sight of casual visitors
  11. iv had dogs with broken toes and pretty much left them to their own devices, never known it to affect my dogs performance after a good lay off from lamping they have come good, although in some extreme cases iv heard of people having the dogs toe removed, and this also has not affected the dog
  12. dogs do not generally recognise the fact that there is indeed a sitter in front of them,i would walk the dog up and give the dog some encouragement that something is about to happen,if need be kick the rabbit up then slip the dog, once the dog learns to trust your instinct, even if it cannot see the sitter it will learn there is something in the beam, eventually the dog will learn to take them either in the seat or it will be ready should the rabbit bolt, this is only what i do.each to their own
  13. iv used the wam with good effect if i remember its the brass disc, also used the widgeon one aswell, silver disc,as you say there are lots on the market, try and get used to using your hand, that way you can vary your calling, volume pitch ect
  14. just a quick hello to you all, love all things hunting related,do a bit shooting, ferreting and general mooching about thanks recce
