  1. I went out shooting today and shot 135 rounds of ammo. I only took one break about halfway through and noticed at the end of the day my groupings were opening up a lot, from 3/4 of an inch to up to 2 inches. Anyone else experience eye fatigue? As I think that is what was causing it.
  2. A bit curious on that 14, how fast does it shoot? It seems that it would be a pretty quick little round with how small of a bullet it shoots. Does it hit the 4000 fps mark?
  3. I have used both the 17hmr and the 22LR. If you want to hunt the occasional fox, I would say go with the 17hmr. It has a lot more power at 2500 fps vs. the 22 LRs 1200 fps and should mean you are able to make about a 150 yard shot on the foxes. The only downside is that rabbits shot in the body with a 17hmr hollowpoint or Vmax tip tend to be really badly damaged and may have a lot of edible meat ruined. Of course there are full metal jacket loads that will reduce the damage or you can always just aim for the head. Personally I would go with the 17hmr as it is more flexible and you can cho
  4. Or just give guns to me :11: No but in all honesty good luck with that hope it turns out!
  5. What is the most unique rifle cartridge that everybody owns? By unique I mean obscure/old....I feel I am very boring with only a 17hmr lol
  6. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a deer stalking dog. However, in America, in the states that allow it, they use hounds such as redbone, bluetick, black and tan. I have also heard of people using smaller dogs such as beagles with success. By deer stalking, do you mean actually hunting and killing the deer? What is your deer gun? Is it the 22-250 and if so how effective is it?
  7. Why are a lot of people here worried sick about muslims?
  8. Good luck mate and don't get discouraged...it took me three years to get my hive going strong
  9. OK so I am in the US and this whole wedding (Prince William and Kate) is getting a TON of coverage and stories and reports....I was wondering if it was getting as much in the UK
  10. Real good...best fried and breaded...bony as hell though
  11. HAHA Thought they were great.....I guess I have a pretty low mental age as well according to lab tastic
  12. Well if they are like most other wildcats (I don't see why they wouldn't be), you seem to be doing everything right. All I would suggest is to keep running those snares along the game trails (as I got a bobcat like that once), and calling at night should probably work as well. You could probably look into other types of traps as well such as regular steel foothold or padded steel foothold traps if they are legal, and baiting them with some sort of bobcat or mountain lion lure, or if nothing else just some sort of meat. Just make sure you check to see if you would be able to use these. Anot
  13. Ok guys, as I am from America, I am not real that aware of the whole "big, black cat" thing in the UK. I have heard though on the discovery/history channel show Monsterquest that allegedly there are black panthers that roam parts of your country. I have also seen reports of this on this website on various discussions. So I would like to know, are there really black panthers that roam the UK or are they sort of like our bigfoot? (I don't mean to offend anybody that has actually seen them, I would just like to know more about them). I know we have mountain lions where I live in Iowa, so it w
  14. Especially if you use the full metal jacket bullets at close range (I use CCI Full metal jackets). They work very well for close range hunting of small animals such as muskrats, and they don't make a real big mess of them like a CCI TNT hollow point will.
  15. Thanks Fenlander....yes there are a couple of different ways to live trap foxes though....like I said, as far as cages go, it seems that most any kind of meat/animal bait would work such as chicken, fish, rabbit or beef....are these foxes really used to people and going after trash? If they are you might want to try just plain table scraps and other kinds of food that they might be going after in your garbage. If they are country foxes and not too used to people though, you might be best off just using chickens and rabbits and more natural types of bait.
  16. Good luck Foxgun tom, with scottish independence...Long live William Wallace I guess lol
  17. I have trapped quite a few foxes here in the states. The type of bait you are using though may depend on the kind of trap you intend to use. Are you using a cage style live trap? If so, a meaty bait such as sardines, rabbit, or chicken would work best. You may want to try and use a soft catch leghold type trap as well (first check if they are legal as regulations vary from place to place). If you use this style of trap, you would be best off using a lure in conjunction with a dirt hole set. The Dirt Hole set The dirt hole set is one of the most effective sets for land trappi
  18. While I haven't had any experience shooting fox with my 17HMR, I will say that it has packed enough punch to take down raccoons, and bobcats so I wouldn't know why it would not have enough power to get the job done on fox. I would also say that I would go with the 17 HMR over the 22 WMR, just because you can get better accuracy with the 17, and if you ever do any close range hunting of small fur I don't believe the 17 will damage the pelt or meat as bad as a 22 WMR will.
  19. Great Shot! The fur may be a little damaged and I'd definately say quite a bit of values knocked off BUT it's still an awesome shot and was probably alot of fun.
  20. Hey there, I'm new as well. It's nice to see another american on here lol
  21. Hi I just joined. I'm from Iowa in the USA, and am seeing from looking around on the site that this is a mostly british site. But that is fine as I don't really have any problem with you brits lol. I was just looking to be a member of a site that discusses small game and varmint hunting as I do quite a bit of that (mostly raccoon, muskrat, rabbit, squirrel, fox and coyote, although I did get a bobcat last year), anyway I just wanted to be a member of a place to discuss such matters. Also you british people seem to have some unique ways to hunt such as ferreting which I don't believe is ver
  22. Hello everyone, I have never ferreted before (although I have heard of it), and was wondering what a beginner should do. Is it best to buy a baby ferret or a full grown one? Do you have to train the ferrets at all or do they just flush things out instinctively? Also, I am a yank (proudly too lol ) and was wondering what kind of game do most of you hunt with your ferrets? I see alot of rabbits, but here in America the rabbits don't live in dens like they do over there? What do any of you think about using ferrets to flush larger animals out of dens such as muskrats, mink, raccoons, a
