  3. i have the same breed mate dam track g hound sire working s/g hound she is good way ferrets just get her with them at a early age she has thrown more to the g hound very racy looking but does just fine

Thats good to hear mate , its not essential if the pup makes the grade as a ferreting dog but would be nioce if it could do a bit of that as well

  4. has the greyhound ever worked??? what will happen to her after the breeding?? why not work the two you got now and worry about pups when you need some??

The two what i have now ?

I only have one other dog and she is a lakie x

I have no idea what will happen to her after the breeding and she's ex track so never done anything in the field

  5. My dogs sire is this way bred and he's a great dog.

Endless stamina, awesome daytime and great on the lamp. Hunts up really well and as expected pace to burn. Also very good jumper.

He is 6 now and I would be more than happy to own him.

Thats the sort of qualities i was hoping for just didnt know how much of the suluki qualitys would be left after this mating :hmm:

  6. I THINK THE PUPS WILL BE VERY HOUNDY.TAKE YOUR TIME WHEN PICKIN YOUR PUP.ATB

Can you explain what you mean by houndy ??

Roxy i know it is down to how i socilise the pup with the pugs , i was thinking more of how it will take to ferreting , i know saluki x's are not the usual choice for a ferreting dog as they are more at home at the chase i suppose only time will tell

  7. A guy in my town is having this as a planned breeding after christmas dam is the greyhound sire is a saluki x grey .

Have had a few nights on the lamp with the sire and he is mustard on the lamp , also good daytime :whistling:

Dam is a rescue grey hound from a track that he has rehomed for this breeding .

Whats everyones opinion on this cross , will these throw to the sire or the dam ?

I will want it as a day and night dog and maybe a ferreting partner although i'm not fussed if it doesn't take to ferrets .

  8. hi all , whats your opinions on the ford maverick glx. 2.7 diesel 4x4.. and what can you expect to pay for something around m or n reg..?

I have a terrano, mate. Dunno if they're identical or not, but the terrano is a pile of sh1te. It handles like a trawler, goes like a slug, but refuses to stop with anything less than a weeks notice. It has constant electrical problems and breaks down so often, i've been invited to the RAC mans wedding. It's an 02 plate and it cost over 800 quid to MOT this year.

If Mavericks are even close to terrano's on build quality and reliability, then avoid it at all costs.

I dont think the earlier ones had as much trouble as the later ones bert , the earlier ones are not bad on juice and mines quite nippy .

Saying that i know what you mean about the electrics but at least the earlier ones are quite easy to sort ,i have no idea about your models .

Land rover for me when i'm a bit more flush

The oil warning light has been on for a year. I've chucked money at it, but there comes a point with old cars where you've gotta draw a line. So now i just dip the oil weekly. I try to avoid using the leccy windows because once open, it's anyones guess whether they'll close again. And it blows brake lights for fun !

As to MPG, if i'm really soft footed, it gets 19/20 ish to the gallon. Not great, but my last car was an evoVIII and that fecker supped it so fast there were a whirlpool in the tank lol

Blimey i feel for you mate worst i've had is replacing the throttle body sensor at £100 quid and i've had it 5 years

I've got a ticket for Fridays euro millions. If i win, that fecky terrano is going over the nearest cliff

Get me a landrover 90 please theirs a pal

  11. I saw one advertised for 400 quid the other day done 143k .

i have a p reg that is the facelift model , good off road if fitted with some applicable tyres especially the short wheelbase .

The electronic components can sometimes be a problem  and can make you wanna tear your hair out but once you understand them , a simple little 4x4 to work on .

However if your looking for a pure 4x4 that will go anywhere your looking at the wrong vehicle .

  12. A lot of the land of which im talking is open pastures , which occasionally house the odd sheep so they have little human awerness .

Some interesting points you've raised in regard to how they interpret a threat :hmm:

Also now they seem to be breeding later and later is this causing a reluctance to bolt ?

.410 is definatly coming out the cabinet though this thread has got me thinking

  13. Billhook or slasher works for me  keeps the brambles and nettles away from your hands.

    Dillan

Ah bill hook they look just the job

    30 miniutes here

Me too, I clear holes, partner follows laying purse nets down full hedge. Go for a drink a fag and a chat back at vehicle. Go back to first warren done with ferrets quietly. This way this gives chance for bunnies to calm down. Beauty about this is if any slip the nets then theres a good chance of backnetting. I have seen us take a full morning to prepare setting 100+ nets before getting out the ferrets. Cant chance putting in all the effort a week before for poachers to do it after all the hard work done clearing out.

The chap who comes with me always says why put the work in for someone else to come along.

Only an issue if you share permission. I hate sharing. Funny how rabbits seem or are said to be unhappy to bolt if you cut some nettles above ground, but if you unleash ww3 with the splatter guns above ground they keep bolting like gooduns :hmm: I know sound does effect, but i think there are more important factors, like if the rabbits have seen a ferret before.

I'm the only one on my permission , so i am probably a bit spoiled in that the only human the rabbits see are me .

I hate having to dig so that's probably why i rest the warrens after the cutting and clearing plus its just habit and the way i was always taught .

Could it be that clearing the area around a warren which is disturbing the ground in its self makes them more wary and less likely to bolt as they maybe have a natural fear of digging mammals i.e foxes badgers

Maybe shooting doesn't cause the same fear :hmm:

I dont use a shotgun when ferreting , in fact can't remember the last time the .410 came out the cabinet , might have to give it some use this season and see if it makes a difference :notworthy:

  14. To be fair mate dont get that many poachers round my permission .

I leave for a week because I have to cut back a lot of vegetation nettles and stuff , makes a fair old noise and makes bolting hard with just a couple of ferts .

I like to make a good job of it because it saves a lot of time further on in the year
