  1. Nothing I didn't already know. Most Vets are scum. Your best with a good old fashioned farm vet. All the rest need shooting. Either that or covered in Fox sent and tied to a fence post at a good hunt kennels. Vets = Money making machine
  2. Advise please. I was looking at buying my first shot gun this weekend at the CLA game fair but all my mates who shoot have said it's best if I buy a gun that I've tried first. I'd really like to get one this weekend so I can start to get out and about. Do you think I could get a gun that fits this weekend or should I wait. Help please

  5. Hi, Just thought I'd say hi. I've been a member, if some what recluse. For ages. But never really posted a hello. So hello. I'm from around the ashton/saddleworth area of Manchester. Got a Border terrier and Staffy and Rhodesian Ridgeback. Not really used as hunters but the Border and ridgeback do work well together when out and about. The border flushes rabbit towards the ridgeback everytime. And the ridgeback will chase. But she's yet to catch. Also into shot guns. But only ever aimed it at clays. I'm here cause I'd love to learn the art of hunting. 31 now so getting on a l
  6. Sorry to hear about your mate. Thats shit. I've got transport that ain't a problem. Splitting fuel money and the like would be fine. My only problem is I need a good few days notice really. But sure we can sort something out. Just let us know. Your only in ashton aren't you

  8. Transport ain't a problem. The other half has a mitsub animal. Do you still have your permission near ashton golf course. I have permission on some land in saddleworth but yet to use it. Hoping to sort a shot gun out at the CLA this weekend. I know this land owner personnally so sure it wouldn't be a problem to bring you with me. I'll test the water first just to see how it go...

  9. Hi John. Long time no text. Looks like you've been really busy with those ferrets of your. Well done mate. I've just got my shot gun licence so after a gun now. Still up for giving you a hand if your ever short on a buddy to come out with you. Still can't get any hunting experience. Hopefully the gun will help get on some local farmers land. Happy hunting mate. TTFN

  11. Hi, Does anyone know if there will be any Terrier racing and Showing at the CLA this weekend. I've checked their web site but it doesn't say. There is ferret racing and there is a 'know your Terrier' type stand but can't see anything about showing or racing. Any idea? Cheers Damo
  12. I live near this kennels. He's still running his business he never stopped. Plus he's just got planning to do pet cremations. Doesn't really send out the right messaged when the council give him permission for this.
  13. Does anyone know if there will be any terrier racing and showing at all on the sat?
  14. Have you even thought of using a Rhodesian Ridgeback. They breed to track large game in south africa. They have great tracking instinct. They are a powerful breed so no problem if they come across only and injured deer. They clever and learn well. They can be hard to train as they are a dominant breed but loyal and willing to follow 'pack leader'. I don't know of any working lines in this country but from what i know the breed hasn't had too much of it's original blood lines lost. Just wanted to throw that one in there. Does anyone use this breed at present? Damo

  17. Don't really want to get any more dogs anyway. Just want to work with what I've got. The terrier is great at flushing and even going to ground. And I was hoping the Ridge back would make a worthy lurcher. She sure does have the drive and stamina. Thanks for all the help. Really looks like I need to work on finding a spot to work before I look at working the dogs etc. Anyone know of land needing working around saddleworth and tameside area of Manchester. got to ask ain't you. Cheers Damo
  18. The Ridge back is as good as some of the lurchers I've seen and the terrier is spot on to. He's showing the ridgeback what she needs to be doing and she's getting it now. I live near Saddleworth moor to the north/ east Manchester. So there is plenty of land to cover just struggle to do much. Also want to try my hand with the air rifle but finding hard to find someone who'll let me go on there land. Too many sheep. They worry dogs will be a pest.
  19. Whats a PCP? Between me and the missus we've got a male 5 year old border terrier and an 18 month old Ridgeback. We got to as many game fairs as possible. The border is always entered into the terrier shows and the terrier racing and the ridge back does chase the bunny where ever possible. (they won't let her in the sim coursing coz she isn't a lurcher) We've also got our own lure, so we can run the dogs. They are the fastest bag catchers around. So we are trying its just the final bit needed now to get us hunting. I am hopefully doing the next season beating too. Thanks for the
  20. Help wanted. I want to get into hunting have wanted to get into hunting for years but don't know how. I've tried to find people willing to let me tag along but most often get a very cold shoulder. Which I do understand. I've got dogs which I'd love to work but struggle because I don't know what I'm doing. I live near Saddleworth moor so have got a large amount of land i could explore if I knew what I was doing. Non of my family are into hunting as we're from the city. So what would be the best way to learn the art of hunting. all advise is welcome. Cheers Damo
