  1. Great looking pup there mate , I used to have a dog of the same breeding, never let me down.
  2. Hi Folks Thought I would post another update on my Hancock Beardie half cross pup. Well he is 7 month old and around 24 inches now and coming along a storm, pretty quick too. After a little problem with his retrieving I think we have now sorted things out in fact he has become somewhat obsessed with it all. His general obedience is pretty good too though he is still very much a puppy and has his moments of silliness and frenzied running about every now and again but all in all I'm pretty pleased with his progress. His hunting instinct is quite strong and he now shows quite a lot of
  3. Hi I’m thinking of getting a new (or maybe s/h) air rifle and have been looking at the BSA Scorpion and R 10. I was just wondering what people that have one or had one think of them. Should I go for the Scorpion or save more pennies and get the R10? I would also be interested to know what are they like to use in the field, good and bad points.
  4. That funny, just this afternoon I was thinking the same thing, my pup is now 6 ½ months old and I can’t imagine (though sorely tempted sometimes) taking him out yet, he is after all still a puppy and a sometimes silly one at that. I think it best to wait until the dog is grown up both physically and mentally before taking it out later rather than earlier. Someone once said that it takes a year to give a dog basic training and then a year experience before you get the best out of it; I think that that’s about right.
  5. Here is a pic of my old now sadly dead (lived to be sixteen) Hancock 3/4 dog, he was great at the rabbiting game and wasn't to bad at hares and hated foxes with a pation Pre ban.
  6. It seems a real shame that on this forum any time anyone dares to mention Hancock and/or his dogs that there is a flood of negative stuff. Often its the same old stuff at that, his kennels are a shame, that his dogs arent wonder dogs and wont run on game if they feel they have little chance of catching or that they are no good on game that fights back. Is any of this generally true of all the stock he breeds? Often these assertions is seems are normally based on a bloke I know had one and said or I have seen a one, a couple or a few and etc. Well I have been to his kennels 17 years ago and t
  7. Where you buy a pup from is your decision and if it responds to the effort you put into it and you alone are happy with the results that is all that matters .
  8. No I don't think you do mate, every time Hancock's name comes up on this forum we get the same old stuff trotted out. Lots of opinions about his place that dont seem to match up to what I and others that have seem when we picked up pups. If you dont like collie crosses then clearly he is not the man for you as he doesnt breed anything else. For myself I have had two dogs from him the first was great and very adaptable and the new pup (now 5 months)seems to be turning out pretty good to. New pup As has been pointed out a number of times, if he was producing rubbish dogs how could he ha
  9. Hi I thought I would post a quick update on my Hancock Beardie half cross pup, he is now five months old and around 19-20ish inches high at the shoulder, hard to get an accurate measurement as he seems to think at the moment that me trying to gauge his height is a game in which his roll is to not stay still. All in all he is doing very well in fact to be honest I’m as pleased as punch, so far he is both very biddable and fairly confident, most of the time. He does have a fairly irrational fear of walking up or down stairs but then again that is quite handy for keeping him downstairs

  11. Here is my old Hancock ¾ grey hound ¼ Beardie/border bloody wonderful dog never let me down. And here is by Beardie half cross at 12 weeks, now he is five mounths and training very well, will get a newer picture soon.
  12. Does this help ? http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38494 Thanks for that, indeed it does. Any others people favour.
  13. I was wondering what different trap baits do people here find when trapping squirrels, rats, mink, rabbits etc.
  14. Here is my old Hancock ¾ grey hound ¼ Beardie/border bloody wonderful dog never let me down and on the shoot I used to beat on he was as good as many of the gun dog bread dogs, if a bit keen on picking birds up whether the were shot or not. And here is my new dog, he's a half cross Hancock Beardie, been very easy to train so far and not head strong at all. He was about 12 weeks in this picture and is a lot more rough coated now.
  15. Hi Not sure what “Has to be f2f†means so may be a stupid question but would you post?
  16. Have the same thing going on, my pup eats all day and never gets any fatter, it all goes into growing bone, mussel and skin etc If you have wormed and the pup is still running about and playing like a pup does then I should think all is well. It is just amazing how much they can eat though.
  17. Yeah theyre shite on charlie
  18. Yes looks like a collie greyhound pup to me too, rounded heads are common in very young collie greyhound pups.
