  1. My ferrets eat dry food (JWB), & on occasions the hob coughs a few times, the vet said it was nothing to worry about, might be just due to the dry diet because sometimes they have some fresh chicken as a treat & no coughing!
  2. (smokin) is correct, there is no "ferret flu", ferrets are liable to contract our colds & flu viruses, as some years ago i used to work at B'Ham university & we used ferrets to research flu vaccines as their respiratory tract is similar ti ours & reacts the same.
  3. Hi wozza, welcome to the site, i'm in the west mids, pm me if you fancy a chat on the state of hunting in our area. Dave.
  4. Smart little dog, he looks great! Best of luck with him.
  5. I do quite a bit of ferreting in the west mids & i've never had any problems either, if i'm unsure i just don't put the ferrets down just to be on the safe side.
  6. Eden is a good looking dog! nice to see you working her on the A-frame, its a useful fitness tool i use one for my dog Kaiser.
  7. Since i've joined "The Hunting Life" website & spoke to a few other members & read discussion topics i've noticed that there are many of us out there that work our staffs / staff/crosses, & this has become more obvious than ever over the past 2 weeks or so. i know their not the best rabbit or rat dogs in the world but we obviously love our dogs & are proud to tell others of their exploits & show our dogs off in cyberspace. do members think it might be a good idea if the administrators created a working staff/staff cross section in the gallery pages??
  8. If your having difficulty finding anywhere to rat you can always have a bash with me plenty on my patch, buti'm quite a distance from you living up in the Birmingham area.
  9. I've never had a problem with dogs & ferrets living in close proximity the dog is well broken to the ferrets since puppyhood & has a healthy respect for them.
  10. Nice one! watched the vid, ferrets looked as though they had a good time! wonder if my lot would fancy a bit of tree-rat for supper? plenty of them around my area so i will pop out a bit later & see if i can nail a couple.
  11. Good point! yep, i do know of a few people with ferrets but they are kept as pets only ( nothing wrong with that, 2 of my older rescue fuzzys are my mrs's pets ) most of my mates are just into thier shooting, fishing etc, tried ,but can't convert them to try a bit of ferreting, never mind i think next time i have some free time from work i'll drive over telford way & take a look.
  12. Hiya Good to hear from you, whats things like for ferreting clubs in your neck of the woods? or is it likewhere i live we seem to be as rare as chickens teeth!
  13. Hi Stubby! had a quick look at your profile, you seem to have had a similar past to me ,eg age, old biker, interest etc. anyway thanks for the advice, much appreciated as are everybody elses useful comments. must sign off for a while as the dogs need a run & i need an excuse to wander the canal and check if any of my mates re fishing!
  14. Live fairly near Birmingham myself but dont know of any ferreting clubs , you could start your own i suppose Thanks for the reply Kay, my thoughts exactly, i may have to resort to it.
  15. Hi there, I live in the Birmingham area & have a small amount of permission to rabbit & rat on, my problem is i'm trying to find a ferreting club fairly local to me, i know i live in a city area but ther must be a club within a short drive of my location. Surely i can't be the only bloke in Birmingham who uses ferts to hunt coney! Can anybody Help or suggest anything?????
  16. Both of my ferrets are getting on a bit now, & so i want to get a couple of younger jills to refresh my hunting team & give the old timers a well deserved rest, will it be okay to let them all live in the same court or, house them seperate? At present i have one vasectomised hob & a spayed jill.
  17. hiya tony, ref ferret washing, plain warm but not hot water usually does the trick, but if you've got a real mucky one mild kitten shampoo does the trick! my ferrets don't like the washing but enjoy being dryed off after! Dave, Birmingham.
