  1. Of course this all depends on the context - next to an HID spotlight, no, to anything the same size, it is bright, has good throw and is programmable so you can get the output you want. It has the type of performance that makes you wonder why you ever had to carry around a lamp powered by a lead-acid battery. This is the opportunity for you to try it out yourself and possibly win it as well :-)
  2. Due to lack of interest I have unfortunately had to cancel this comp and pass-around. I've launched a competition which can be found here: http://www.thehuntin...t/#entry2339943 As the object of the competition could fit into several forums on this board I put it into the equipment thread but thought I would mention it here. I need a minimum of 20 people in the pass-around to run the comp, so hopefully we can get enough interest.
  3. I've also got some super cheapy cree torches as you can see in the photo where I have three lights mounted, two of them are Ultrafire WF-501b torches, one with a red led and the other with a white. They are OK, but not a patch on a quality light. Yes a £20 light will do OK, but spend a bit more and you get a lot more quality, performance and reliability.
  4. Exactly! I wouldn't pull the trigger on something without seeing it or reading some glowing reviews of it. It is one thing to be in a gun shop and see what their lights are like, but then a product like this you have to go on faith. Well hopefully if there are enough interested people I can get this pass-around off the ground. Thanks for answering before I could.
  5. I have used the HLF search function to try and find if there have been any pass-arounds previously organised on HLF and can't find any. On other forums I use such as Candle Power Forums and British Blades, it is quite normal for people to arrange for some new and interesting gadget to be passed around a few people allowing them to have a closer look and see what they think about it without having to buy one first. As I couldn't find a specific section I have started a thread in the Equipment section http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/225724-pass-around-of-the-armytek-predator-h
  6. Due to lack of interest I have unfortunately had to cancel this comp and pass-around. I'm relaunching this thread as a competition. Every participant of the pass-around will be entered into a draw to win one of the Predators, so after having a look at one close up, one of you will end up owning it. Unless I have a minimum of 20 participants I cannot run the pass-around or competition, so please sign up and let others know about it who might be interested. I've started this thread to offer a pass-around of the Armytek Predator Hunting light. Previously I have used several different
  7. Last time I saw one of these for real was around 1980 looking like a big spider while making its way across the pebble dash on the back of the house. Really good to see such a healthy looking one. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Oops, I didn't meant to put this in the for sale section. Please could a moderator move it to the best forum area. Should it be in "Hunting Clothing, DVD, Book & Equipment Talk"?
  9. PART 3 – Out In The Field (hunting with the TK21) The Fenix AR102 remote tail switch is one of the best I have ever come across. Solidly built, it has a high quality pressure switch and a reverse clicky switch that operates independently. This allows you to have the light switched on permanently or momentarily. This combination proves perfect, as it gives flexibility while hunting of either having a permanently-on light, using the clicky switch, or a momentary-on light, using the pressure switch. With other lights, I have had to change the tail cap to be able to use permanent on or m
  10. A few days ago I received a TK21 from The Photon Shop for review along with the Fenix AR102 a remote tail switch, AF02 a bike mount, and two types of gun mount (scope and rubber block). Before I look at how this torch performs while out hunting (part 3) and on bicycle rides (part 4), part 1 will cover initial impressions and part 2 some measured performance tests. PART 1 – Initial Impressions: The TK21 U2 is the latest single 18650 or two CR123 powered torch from Fenix with an XML U2 LED (updated from the XML T6). It has a combination of features that I have found make it incredibly v
  11. 75 views and no reply yet. Have I got this wildly wrong or is there nothing left to add. Can someone add information for crow, rook, pigeon, rat etc?
  12. Personally, most of my hunting is vermin control, and this is carried out whenever I have time to do some and the weather is not too inhospitable. What I am interested in is if there are any peak times of the year when you will concentrate on a particular species, or when the peaks of activity occur. I'd like to compile a kind of calendar to give me an idea when it is best to concentrate my efforts. If there are particular times of year, does this relate to breeding cycles, or any other factors (crops etc)? This thread is aimed at pest species as the game seasons are clearly define
  13. There must be more to the story, but if you were going to leave the guns out and maybe need to pop to the loo, why wouldn't you lock the front/back doors so no-one could just walk in. If it had required a knock on the door or ringing the doorbell, no-one would have known. I know several farmers who keep shotguns out so they can be grabbed at a moments notice to dispatch a crow or fox. Unless they do this, having the gun is almost pointless as they don't have time to spend just waiting. Is this acceptable, well officially I would say no. The other problem of course is that they get left
  14. Exactly the same for me. My only complaint has been availability at times my RFD has not been able to get any.
  15. chimp, your avatar is mesmerising...... I losing focus.......
  16. Oh, and in response to the OPs comment, I still have my Gat Gun and remember how awful it was, but at the same time it was very cool (when it is the only gun you own). I used darts into a dart board and it gave me hours of fun. The corks were too easily lost and at one point I even tied a thread to them so I could retrieve them easily.
  17. What is wrong with this picture? ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. ALWAYS treat a gun as if it is loaded. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. From this picture it looks like all three of these rules have been broken. I'm afraid I find this very scary. If the child is not old enough to understand fundamental shooting/gun handling safety rules then they should not be allowed to hold a gun. Or perhaps this should be: If the parent is not able to correctly instruct their own child in the fundamental safety rules of shooting/gun handlin
  18. OK so finally my new red torch has arrived. RED Cree P4 LED torch It uses the Cree P4 Red LED. This is supposedly twice as efficient (twice the light output for the same input current)and looks to have a tight hotspot. This is significantly brighter, by eye, than the K2 LED. I'm waiting on a lux meter to arrive (which must be on another slow boat) so will be able to quantify the difference. I'll also try to post a photo of the beams side by side. I would recommend the DX version previously linked in this thread which uses the K2 as this has a good bright beam which has a so
  19. The original photo seems to be on 'Documenting Reality' and describes the shooter using recommended saboted bullets. I suspect one was left in the barrel after a round was chambered and then unloaded without firing, then chambering another round would leave two bullets in the barrel. Nasty accident and nasty injury. I hope I never see a barrel split for real.
  20. I'd just like a add a quick note here that the 18650 is a lithium battery and does require some care when using them as they can be very dangerous. Improperly treated cells can explode or start burning, and with lithium, nothing will really put it out once it starts. It is important to monitor the voltage. Don't use any where the voltage is below 2.75V, recycle these. And never charge above 4.2V Most inexpensive chargers will continue to charge them up to 4.5V, slowly so once the charge light goes green you can safely remove them, but if you leave them overnight you might have a nasty surp
  21. I also have the Luxeon K2 based torch from DX. It is a good bright torch and so far haven't found anything to beat it on output and low size/weight. DX customer service is great, but you have to know there is a problem. After buying one of these, I wanted a second one. The second one arrived, but was about half the brightness. I only knew this because I had the first one. Once I sent the a photo of the two beams, they sent me another one which was fine. With such a cheap supplier, reliable quality can be an issue. You might want to buy two to check (and have a spare / second). Sometimes I
  22. I have been using a red lamp with great success. My usual prey are rabbits and often I have seen them clearly unaware or not bothered by the red light, but instead looking up to listen if I make a sound (nicely presenting their head for a clean shot). If I switch to white light they look at the light and are much more jumpy. However, red light is one colour our eyes are least sensitive. I have noticed some hunting lamps employing green coloured light which is much more visible to human eyes, but what about to various vermin eyes? To me, the logic would be that just as our eyes are most
  23. The traps haven't got anything yet. But although not supposedly their normal behaviour I have now seen a potential culprit. A hedgehog! I didn't see it dig, but this morning found some new holes, with a root in the middle, where I saw the hedgehog. Just in case it is rats, I will change the trap to a cage trap so if the hedgehog gets into it I can let it go again instead of it being killed.
  24. with a forum name like lampingking, yey you havent posted a picture of your own set up I agree, lampingking, where is a picture of your set up?
