  1. OK if I was o put one of my hobs down then yes I would always use a locator as they are bigger and more able to kill down below. But if its one of my jills I do and have used them with no locator, but thats not to say they are not able to make a kill down below! they have just not done so or to my knowledge they have not.
  2. HI How many times have you driven down a road or lane and seen some great places to ferret? I drive around looking for new places to get permission to ferret, but when I find a place that I think looks good I can never find out who owns the land to ask! That little voice in my head always tells me to just do it anyway and if anyone see's you they will either say Hi or Feck off I never do , always too worried what would happen if I was caught But do any of you get the same urge and if so do ya do And anyway whats the worst that could happen? its only ferreting? What do
  3. Maybe I have just been unlucky a couple of times.
  4. What about any sh*t that might be about due to punchures
  5. What you don't even gut your rabbits?
  6. Yes someone else told me the same, they even said dont bother gutting it but you must have to gut it don't ya?
  7. Have any of you ever fed squirrel meat to your ferrets before? I'm aware us humans can eat it and apparently its an up and coming meat. But what about feeding the odd one to our ferrets?
  8. Ok maybe not by the land owner! but thats how the general public look at us at times
  9. Great one! and the ferrets will love eating them baby wabbits mine go at them like they are eating jelly babies
  10. Why is it that if you speak to land owners or others about obtaining permission to ferret on their land they automatically label you as a scaly Yes people who own and work ferrets do come from various backgrounds but we aren’t all wrong urns as they put it!!!! I enjoy a day out with my ferrets and because people see you out and about they always seem to think your up to no good A comment I have had in the past is if you had a job you would not have to go out killing poor defenceless rabbits>> I have a Job! And a good one I tell them! They just TUT at you and walk off. So w
  11. Hi Got a bit of new land but I’m having a few problems. 1- My MK1 locator will dot work on this land (getting interference from power lines etc)So I tend to put my 2 jills down with no locators! should I stop working them here? 2- My Jills work great I’m really chuffed with them But I find that if I use nets I’m constantly resetting them as my jills come in and out and its a right pain Is this normal or am I doing somert wrong? 3- Also another reason I haven’t been using nets cause rather than the rabbits bolting like a missile out of it hole they tend to stro
  12. Thanks everyone Looks like its the 22lr Next decision semi auto or bolt action Think im more swung towards bolt action what you think
  13. No electric fence, overhead power lines are in some places but not all.
  14. Anyone have a FAC air rifle and how does it compare to a rim fire ie 22lr/17hmr or the pros and cons of FAC v rim fire.
  15. I need to pick the right gun for my needs, safety is my 1st concern. People say the 22lr is quiet and if zeroed at 70 yards it will only need 1" hold over for a 100yard shot, but that's about its max range for rabbits(not sure if true or not). But I am told it tends to ricochet really badly, so would be worried about this as not sure how far it could carry. Then you have the 17 hmr but I'm told the down side is the noise, but it travels really flat so zeroed at 70 yards it would only need 1" hold over for a 200 yard shot(again I have no idea if this is true)down side unless its a head sho
  16. Im looking for advice please. I currently use shotguns and air rifles but I am thinking about applying for my FAC, my main quarry is rabbits, pigeons, crows etc 1.Whats the pros and cons over 17hmr and 22 2.whats the diff between 22 / 22LR / 22 magnum or are they all the same gun just with different types of bullets 3.What would be my range for shooting rabbits with 17hmr and 22 4.What else should I be asking Cheers
  17. Was out ferreting at the weekend but when the time came to use my ferret finder I found that if I turned it any higher that 6 or 7 it would make a lound noise and would not locate my ferret. Tested it today and it worked fine Could it be anything to do with the type of land that I was ferreting on ie the burrows ran along an old track that was made of slag from the pit and lumps of stone.
