  1. American Badger is very different to the European Badger,Irish Badgers are very different in their habits than british ones, no reason to think otters wouldn't be any different? American Otters tend to live together in large social groups, which would make things a lot tougher for a terrier. Bryan Just out of intrest how are irish badgers different in their habits than British ones? You should know the answer to that one liam, irish one's wear a lilly and the british ones wear a poppy

  5. When we pulled out Scent we had an older dog with us, Glen, belonging to Flash28, we collared him up to let him run the burrow to make sure there was nothing else at home. He came back out so we just left him to his own devices as we cleaned up Scent. The old dog went missing so we put on the box and it read 20m down along the same bank. When we got to the spot it read 1.4 on the box and the old dog could be heard marking. I brought Mason down to the entrance hole to see if he'd pay any attention to it. I had the lead loose and as we got to it he just stared for a second and made a dart forwar
  6. Went out today with Flash28 and Warrior22 to check a couple of burrows above pheasant rearing pens. Brought along Scent and Mason. Tried Scent at a handy spot, went in started marking nearly straight away, gave a listen at the hole and could hear him trying to dig on. We gave him 10mins, he didn't move on much further so opened up to him at 0.7 as from what we could make out he seemed stuck. Must admit I was starting to lose heart a small bit. When we reached him he was wedged tight and cleared the tube in front of him, it only seemed a mouse hole. When we opened it up he shot forward and push
  7. Mason the 13 month old, trying to put it up since thursday, would only go up now
  8. Good job, good to see plenty of red fellas about!
  9. I usually leave it til about 16-18 months but the young dog is well capable
  10. Can't seem to upload a pic of the young dog, will try again tomorrow!
  11. Went out yesterday for an hour with Flash28 and Warrior22 to try a burrow that wasn't holding at the start of the season. Entered Jack, started marking pretty much straight away. Read 0.9 on the box, gave him 20 mins and started to dig. The ground was like concrete it was that cold. It took us just over an hour before we reached him and a very 'dead' big dog fox. He seems to be improving after every dig. Flash28 should be well pleased with him, I would be if he was mine. We had a young dog with us, 13month old black patterdale, he's half brother to Jack and Scent, same father to a good sen
  12. Thanks lad's a dog is only as good as his last dig you know how it goes. They're only young dog's so time will tell, they seem to be going the right direction for us anyway which is a good start, will keep ye posted on their progress.
  13. Had a dig today (to Jack), brother to my young dog (Scent) who had his 2nd dig last week. It was Jack's turn. Went to ground around 11am, was in 5 mins when a red flash shot out from a bunch of dead leaves, followed by the dog! Enter the dog again, was travelling and settled in one spot that read 1.3 on the box. Gave him 10 mins to see if he would shift. We started digging just to make sure he wasn't barking on the scent of the one that bolted. Being a young dog and only his 3rd dig we thought it better to make sure as its not a habit that you want a young dog picking up. Need not have worried
  14. Cheers, ya a good dig, done well, still a bit sore. The smooth dog in my gallery is his brother. A good dig to him too two weeks before hand, he should be good to go again this week

  15. Cheers lads, I think he's about 21 months i'll have to have a look at the book. You would want big hands to span him but he's not overly big, no problems with travelling so far. He runs well with the beagles. He had to dig on a bit on the second dig but got to his fox in a stop end.
  16. No flash28 off here bred him, the bitch had 3 pup's 2 dogs and a bitch, so far the 3 seem to be coming on ok.the bitch is with the owner of the sire, a very strong bitch as big as the 2 dog's.
  17. I had a 2nd dig sunday with a young patterdale, thought i'd put up a pic! 1.2 on the box, he worked well, doesn't seem to use his voice a lot but will hopefully steady up
  18. some good photo's of smashing dogs. I don't know about the close ups though :nea:
  19. There was en excellent turn out today,i'd say it was the best year yet well done lads top notch.
  20. Noel should realise that on this forum and many other forums that a lot of lads talk a lot of shit. Each to their own and if his dogs make him happy then he shouldn't care what others say or think. His dogs wouldn't be for me but I wouldn't knock him if they suit him. The main thing is when it comes to it and we have to stand side by side to protect the sport that we love that we can all get on together for that reason.
