Does anyone no of any collie x breeders in yorkshire i will be wanting one soon 3/4 grey i want not first cross. Are there breeders who specialise in these in the area. Any replies much appreciated.. Lee

ive kept bulls from being a kid(full pedigree bull terriers) and know how hard they are to train compared to a good spaniel or terrier but the bitch im keepin now... a pit cross is the best dog ever seen for flushing game. She flushes game for my mates hawk and other mates saluki... When the other dog or goss aint there shes taken odd morn ing rabbit herself... I know this isnt the norm but it shows that if you get lucky with any breed you end up with a good worker.......

Great looking dog hows it bred
-
cheers for replies but can anyone elaborate tell me why their good and what to avoid maybe.
-
cheers toplamper can you say why

If i was on the look out for a pup to train to take mainly rabbits and a good few long ears and a charlie or two occasionally what would you recommend. This would be my first lurcher and i no there will be differing opinions and people saying go with what you like but i am not already in love with a certain type as some guys will only have bullx etc.... Cant wait for your replies. Cheers..Lee

Cheers poacher il keep my eye out for it. Suppose the older books might be better anyhow cos they cover all quarry even ones which arnt legal anymore.

Understanding the working lurcher by Jackie Drakeford or Traditional skills by same author. I will be buying a book this week but can anyone recommend which i should go for as a novice wanting to learn. Any other books you can recommend would be welcome too. Cheers. Lee

Dont mean to patronise cos io dont know you or what you know but there are many people think buy a harris it be easy and we will go hunting. Wont happen. Get a mentor read everything you can over and over, join a club get a bird next year thats what im doin. We must learn first. There is no good starter bird for someone with no experience not even the relatively calm harris. Lee

I Bought a .177 lightenin xl a few years back as my first rifle to hunt with i cant make comparisons as id only had a handfull of shots with old rifles as a child, but i loved it! Zeroed at 35 yds i was barely through a tin of pellets before i was grouping sub 1 inch. I felt a real affinity for my baby and made a dent in the tree rat and woodie population for a while til it was stolen recently. Maybe its because i was new to shooting and moulded my style to the rifle, i dont know but i and the local vermin can confirm it was consistently accurate.

Great forum i love the trapping threads and hoping to get my first hawk next year so that section will come in handy for me. Ive been hunting with air rifles for a few years but im no expert so il apologise upfront for any silly questions i ask. Happy hunting to all. Lee.
