  1. My 13 week old collie x pup had to have her eye removed last Tuesday after an attack from an unsupervised Labrador on one of her very first walks. I was walking her in a secluded area and as a treat for being good on the lead I let her off for a little while before we headed back to the van, while she was having a little run round a Labrador came out of nowhere and right over to me I couldn't see another soul about, the lab was friendly as anything to me and the pup just sat and watched from about 10 yards away as I give the lab a little stroke. Obviously I was quite wary of a strange dog being around the pup, so I was trying to easy my way over to get the lead back on without causing too much excitement but the lab went running over first, after a few seconds of sniffing each other the lab just gave one bite at the pups face and as I started to run the lab ran off, the pup was just lieing on the ground writhing about screaming so I picked her straight up and she started to bleed all over the place it was spraying up into the air i didn't realise the full extent of the damage until I looked to see we're she was bleeding from and seen her eyeball was hanging right down her cheek.

I got her to the van and went straight to the emergency vets, to say I was panicking would be the understatement of the century, I can't remember the drive to the vet and ill never know how I never crashed. They had to operate and take the eyeball out as it was unsavable.

I went back the vets the next day to pick her up and it was like there was nothing wrong with her, completely normall and been running round like a loon since she got home, hasn't bumped into one thing, the vet said as soon as she came round from the operation she had the nurses up the wall.

I'm going to carry on training as normal and I'm not expecting miracles but if she works then ill be happy, and if she doesn't she will still have a great pet home here.

She is my very first own dog and my very first working dog and the anger, guilt, sadness and disappointment I feel is unbelievable that she will never reach her full potential and the many years hunting I had planned for us may never happen, but which ever way it swings I'm happy if she's happy.

  2. Am in Kirkby area and flying my Harris come August if you wish to come with me I hunt Chesire mostly and Wales of weekend

I'd be more than happy to tag along mate.

I'll even put a full tank in the van and take a willing mentor to wherever his hunting ground was if that spurs people on to take an interest

  3. liam that lad was his name phil if it was he lives on the lane your down that end are,nt you ask about Degsy

The fella I used to talk to was called Steve if I remember rightly, I think he got f*cked off from there because he was never there to look after his birds and left it to Paul who owned it, he never hunted I don't think he just done shows and that. After he left a young lad started who might be who your talking about I remember chatting to him and he was saying he goes all over the country flying his birds but I never seen much of him then I went one day and everything was gone, not sure he would remember me.

  4. Never been lucky enough to go out flying with a hawk, simple reason is I've never known anyone who flies them. I used to handle them regularly at a garden centre sort of thing who used to have a resident bird of prey keeper who I tried to get matey with and pester him to let me put a glove on and have a go but that closed down last year and they just disappeared. As for permission I haven't managed to acquire any yet but still in the process of asking. I'm still a couple of seasons off owning a hawk bit as I say it's the closest I've ever been and I'd like to get to know first hand what to expect in owning a bit of prey before I make that commitment.

  5. Just a quick intro I'm Liam, I'm 22 and I've had a lifelong passion for birds of prey/falconry but never really had the freedom to pursue it, I'm closer now to owning a bird than ever before but before I make that commitment I'd like to be shown first hand the ins and outs of owning a bird. No matter how many books I've read or forums I ask advice on nothing compares to first hand experience. I know no one will be flying as the season over but the sooner I can start this part of the education the better. Feel free to pm me if you want contact details etc.. And I hope to hear from someone soon,

    Thanks for your time,

    Liam.

  6. I have only ever seen 2 as far as I can recall, The first time was in France in about 2003 and then again in our back garden one hot summers day not long after, never seen one since. Amazing little creatures aren't they. I don't think they are rare but more common in some places than others.

  7. Well after me getting excited for it and everyone being up for it, they have decided to start dropping like flies, gutted. Gunna have to find somewere else now, any other good places? done Blackpool a few times but fancy something different.

    Cheers.

  8. Apparently he said the public are safe but he will carry on killing the police till he is dead, I still don't fancy bumping into him though. I was planning on going there on Friday 13th aswell......

  9. I've found some cheap digs £25 a night at a premier inn in Swalwell, Gateshead, How far is that from the city centre or would I be better paying a bit more to get closer?

you can only afford to pay whats in your budget, but if you can afford it id go bit dearer and closer to newcastle.looks like at 25bucks your in the shed and off to a snack bar for breakfast.

Well I've just spoke to my best mate and he's pushed for money, so I'm just tryin to find the cheapest way to get there and the cheapest digs. I found the coach for £35 return and them digs for £25 and I thought that was reasonable, I'll just have to see whats what.
