Fantastic life but there are more easier and lucrative ways of earning a living, and keep the rabbits as a hobby, great opportunity for a young single lad or lass with no commitments, it won't pay a mortgage. But hell who cares !!!! Its a good job for the right person and pays the morgage for the lads at evergreen . work can be fun but yes it is very different to a hobby.

If there are crops involved then for a farm of that size he wont be poor. Your providing a service to get rid of them which you should charge for. The sale of rabbits should be classed as your "tip" as you will have good and bad days. You will have to take the rough with the smooth and alot of what you do when being paid for would be avoided if doing it for sport. My advice would be -work systimaticly, do every hedge if it has 2 rabbits in or 2000- just kill them. By working methodicly you wont need to back fill as you will of killed the neibours before they move in. leave lamping til last as

DEBEN mk1 and mk3 Had another 67 off that ground today, all open burrows done now. hedge rows next and i think reckon will do another 700 plus off there yet. Dogs a nackerd at moment. going out there to shoot some in a bit. Have been using the ortovox terrier finder on a big hob today in some deep burrows- great bit of kit- hopefully they will get the collar size down one day soon.

Hi everyone, nice to hear lads still useing the traditional way, my advice would be to make your own net from scratch. I use hemp nets and cotton braid lines. these lines stop any probs with cross winds and netting sliding alond when setting or lifting. you can stitch the net every so many yards but it has limatations. get mr wymans book - you wont go wrong. as for quickset systems , despite my back is knackerd i can still set a net as quickly or faster than most with such a system but more importantly a fair bit quieter. i can also run threw alot more places and find the old way the better. j

my god What dos this breed have that terreirs dont? ive seen a few pet types and always wonderd if one would be good to have as i was planning to get a terrier. i mainly want something to flush quarry to my lurchers from cover, hopefully a fox dog that wont touch other things below ground aswell.

aint that a bit wrong to asume its travlers ???? Thats just like saying every badger digger is any one that owns a terrier or every BNP suporter is a raciest !!! i agree with the about , neva accuse any 1 until certain , it can get you in lot of trouble ! i know how you feel tho i had my best bitch stolen years ago and it still hurts me to think about it . There was an article bout the scum in sporting gun, they are mainly travelers some of which live in houses now. Why on earth be diplomatic- they need rounding up and gassed, ive been targeted many times ,all where traveler

Ive just come back from cumbria after having had a great rabbit hunting trip, we caught 132 over the weekend . we took 3 dogs that are from hancock lines aswell as a bedlington x and a whippet out of darren youngs stuff. Not bad id say as we didnt use a net . Having had worked them for some time id say hancock is better than many breeders in the lurcher world.
-
Im jusst wairy i cant home them, wouldnt want to cull as the money would be helpful. I think in many cases theyd make the ideal lurcher although not for coursing which is of little interst to me anyway.

It would be a ferreting dog mainly but use for other stuff to, always run collie crosses but i cant help but want to try the lab cross. in my neck of the woods a fast dog dosnt last long, a bright one dose tho. There must be someone out there that has bred lab grey without any thing else involved? I think too much emphasis is put on speed, i've noticed at the game fairs i go to that the straight race winners do absolutely no good in the simulated coursing and visa versa. And in the field my beddy whippet wipes the floor with the speedier crosses on rabbits. Speed is a part of it but als

I have a lab bitch which is pretty game , works cover etc and im thinking about the merits of crossing her to either a whippetxgreyhound , a greyhound, or a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie which i bred. Any sensible comments would be greatly recieved.

If you layout the two types of net side by side and open them out into a circle you will see the nets cover exactly the same area. only differance is you will have 4 small triangles, one at each corner doing nothing, the meshs will be closed and seving no purpose. Now if your saying the un-shaped nets dont suit you then thats a differant matter, but to say one is better than the other doesnt make sence. just my opinion of course. Hi mole catcher, I know that if you lay them flat they cover the same area, it would be impossible for them not to however if the rabbit hits close to a
