  1. The driving band is the different coloured metal band around the bottom of the projectile you can see in the picture (above the white area). You can tell its been fired by the scoring marks of the driving band itself, this is caused by the rifling inside the barrel of which ever weapon fired it. You cant necessarily tell its "live" by this, it could just be a training round ie a big lump of metal. Still its pretty stupid to pick it up and carry it round.

  2. Thanks mate thats great. I asked about the river fishing for trout because i can get really cheep access to the River Avon through work, but my mate who i would probably be learning with has his heart set on catching the worlds biggest salmon haha. So i think ill try to get myself a 9 foot rod like you said and try to pin my technique down. I really like the idea of spending a warm summers afternoon pottering around on a river but ive a feeling ill be spending a freezing, summers day soaking thrashing the water with my newly acquired fishing tackle, catching my ear and every tree possible.

  3. There's some decent places to try in the North West depending on where you live.

Pennine Fishery has great fish but isn't very big although that can be a good thing since you don't need to be able to cast far.

Arnfield Near Tintwhistle is ok and very good for boat fishing but can be quite expensive. Westlow in Congleton is another one good for boat fishing.

There's a place in Winkle Macclesfield which is pretty good as well.

I suggest watching some videos on casting and also go and practice on some big fields. Tie a bit of fluff to the end of the line so you can see it (no need for a fly with a hook or you might catch a dog walker). Then practice your casting, stick to 2 or 3 casts and make sure your line doesn't drop behind you...its all about timing really, you don't need to use brute force just use the same force on your back cast as you use on your forward cast.

No need to get a super expensive rod but it really helps if you get a line that is well balanced and suites the rod you have.

I buy second hand Hardy Sovereigns 9' and use a 6/7 weight line. Don't spend lots of money on a reel they only hold your line and get bashed about.

    Tight lines mate

    Ok thanks mate.

Is there much difference between the technique you use fishing from a boat on a resevour or fishing a river for trout or fishing a river for salmon? Should i be starting on a lake really then trying to work upwards? I guess i dont really know where i need to start haha. Also I understand you try to use flies that are representative of the insects/lavea that are about at the moment, is it just as simple as that or is there some dark magic involved in getting it right? Cheers in advance!

  4. Hi i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for info on starting up with fly fishing. Im a total fishing beginner (well in the past year ive had a days fly fishing and a days sea fishing but other than that im new). Id likw to have a few days out this year can any one recommend any guides/instructors? Id like a day on Rutland or something like that, then a couple of days on a river for trout then towards the end of the year id like to try some salmon or something. Any pointers would be more than apreciated! Ta in advance.

Has any one got any experiance with the ex MoD ones? They seem fairly decent for the price of em, but the only problem is they could have had a bit of hammer i guess.

But they would have been serviced regularly.

Ive thought of getting one for a while now as abit of a project. Might get one over summer and have a tinker about with it. Ive never realy done much mechanical stuff before but im sure ill manage with it. Cant be much ahrder than meccano eh? haha

There is an MOD or associated website that sells all the landies and other vehicles.

They also advertise in Landrover Owner magazine.

    It's called www.mod-sales.com

Yer thats where ive been looking. Looks like you can get something half decent for not much over 3 grand.

  7. Is that a dropped deer, as it looks like the desert and I couldn't imagine a gazelle or what ever it is living in such barren places?

Again far be it for me to question another mans sport but thats what i thought. Ive seen a few videos of packs of like 20 salukis coursing a hare haha.

Riohog i guess you know a fair bit about this sorta thing. How much is dropped, do they walk up ect? Whats the quality of foreign Saluki like compared to the stuff bred in the UK? Id have thought, and ive got nothing to back this up, that a 3/3 saluki from the uk (preban of course) or ireland would be better because of larger (and i guess therefor stronger id say) hares and more runs/experiance/better tested if game out there is a problem.

butch does this include disabled people that cant work or carers of disabled people ?

Which part? This is going to come across really badly but i assure you i dont mean it this way its just the lack of context.

With out wanting to sound harsh as f*ck, ANY ONE who claims a benefit of any kind is a drain on my pocket. Does this mean i dont think we as a country (or myself) should look after them? No, i 100% believe that people who need help of any kind, physical/mental disability s change of circumstances ect ect ect, should get it. Im a firm believer that some one that may not be able to work is still an asset, even if thats just something like looking after a kid when some one at work or providing emotional support or being a loving grandmother ect ect ect. BUT that doesnt mean i think every one who claims disability is unable to work, i know a good few blokes who are pretty seriously disabled but work as hard, if not harder than they did before they were injured, and i know a couple of people off work for depression, or anxiety, or a bad back, or what ever and they f**k off and play a round of golf a day living the high life.

If people can work but cant be arsed i feel no obligation to help them at all, i literally couldnt care less if some one who is bone idle starves to death. In fact if they didnt receive my money they wouldnt have the opportunity to be bone idle, they would work or die. You wouldnt keep a working terrier/hound/gundog/terrier if it didnt work, whats the difference?

Theres to many people on this planet to feed wastes of skin, whos only purpose is to thieve oxygen, and produce more wastes of skin.

so people who worked all there lifes who find them self unemployed should get nothing??? people who give up work to look after sick relatives at a fraction of the price of healthcare providers! should get nothing, people who are terminally ill should get nothing??

the problem with what your saying is that only a very small fraction of people on benefits are bone idle (most are in work on shit wages),

lets hope you don't fall on hard times or become ill. but then i guess you would turn any help from the state down???

Think you need to re read what i wrote mate. I didnt say that at all, infact i said the opposite.

  9. Butch for prime minister!!

Dont know if i should be offended or not hahaha!

You're deluded if you think you'd get to keep any more of your hard earned if people stopped claiming benefit.. Let's get this straight - it's the government who takes your money off you, not the people on benefit.. That above posts makes out that every single person who claims benefit is a scrounger, the Daily Mail couldn't have put it any more succinctly.. A large % of the people who claim benefits are working people who need tax credits to live with the cost of living as high as it is nowadays.. There is a huge disparity in the cost of living and the minimum wage, and its something that should be looked at.. I'm heartened to see so many people seeing through the government bullshit when they are trying to set one group of the population against another for their own political agendas to play out, but your post just goes to highlight that there are still people out there who swallow it hook line and sinker..

Ive probably not explained myself properly realy, my mum and grandma both claim there state pension, + other benifits they are entitled (winter fuel and what not). I mean i wouldnt have a problem with that would i but i dont have a problem with people who have worked claiming back in a time of need, old age ect. I guess i would draw the line at some one thinking they were owed more than theyve put in.

Infaqct i guess its the fact that people think there owed anything at all. No one is owed aything in life. People should count them selves lucky they dont live in some shithole around the world were even something like getting clean water is a hazard of daily life.
