  2. I am a proud owner of a really good hunting JRT. He is 8 years old now and has arteritus. He has always been a very good and willing hunter. I bought a well bred JRT bitch over the summer. I was wondering could or should i let my Dog cover her? I really want a pup out of him as he is a one in a million and my pride and joy. Would pups from him be more likely to get arteritus? Please respond as i dont know what to do.

  7. if you want to hunt rabbits from cover get yourself a spaniel springer or cocker i have been reared with these dogs since i was born and there is no terrier alive that can out perform any of these dogs in beating game from thick cover so thats why when i lift my gun i let out a spaniel if i lift my digging tools i let out my terrier simple as that a working terrier must work below ground and stay till dug a terrier that wont go to ground but hunts above it is a sporting terrier simple as that Hello Dee Mac, I have a springer myself a good strong bitch. I will agreee these dogs are better
  8. if a terrier doesnt work below ground and stay untill dug its NOT a working terrier, lurchers ,hounds , springers etc hunt above ground and thats their job so they can be regarded as working dogs but a terriers job is below ground. that is WORK for a terrier , anything above ground for a terrier is sport, simple as that. Sorry Dev, But you are wrong if a terrier works it is a worker. If I work I am a worker it is as simple as that. Terriers were not initially bred to hunt below ground this was a trait brought in later. Work is work just because you dont rate it does not make it wrong

  10. Personally I feel that terriers were initially bred to hunt rabbits and rats. Terriers were bred to irrsdicate vermin and to control the rabbit population. As the year s went on terriers became fox hunters but I dont think this was thier inotial reason for breeding. However in saying that a good working terrier be it Jack, Patterdale or Lakey does love a dig and it is now their main reason to be bred. From my point of view i love a good all round hunting dog. I have a Jack who is a ratter, rabbiter and will hunt and retrieve pheasant while working with a pointer or springer. When it comes to g
