Never thought of the lip on the mesh awesome idea ill do that tomorrow when I finish the varnishing. I think ill keep the shredded paper as its free and keep the wood shavings because its so cheap £7.00 for a massive bale of it lasts months with 4 ferrets my cuzn uses liquid paraffin on his ferret to keep the ticks off he just gets a rag sacks it with liquid paraffin then rubs the ferrets coat down with it and hasn't had a tick in ages. He sais when he did have them he put it on and they just dropped straight off.

My friend has just swapped from shredded paper to hay so ill see how that goes

I'm using old jumpers and shirts for the bottom of the bed then shredded paper piled all the way to the top of the bed and then using news paper for the floor with wood shavings on top. What do other people use or what would be the best. I am getting quite allot of ticks using this so just wondering if hay is better or whatever. I clean them out daily and cages are disinfected down then jet washed ones a month. Could just be that I live right next to the woods and there is allot of farm cats around here to.
