You've got a bird with a big heart, a credit to you mate.

Nice pic's mate.

My MHH has gone for farm cats quite a few times but always pulls up at the last second.
-
Good luck mate, sounds like it won't be long before his first kill.

I reacon once he's start screaming you won't completely stop it, you can reduce it with the methods suggested. You might have to just put up with it until his second season when his voice will deepen and he'll sound like just another one of them crows. Rather than screaming think of it as calling.

Cracking bird mate well done.

I'm still in favour of the Lantra award, but after a bit of consideration I decided not to go a head with it. I worked out that by the time I'd paid for a course, accommodation and fuel etc I wasn't going to see much change out of a grand, to be assessed on stuff I already know, just because I wanted to do my bit for falconry. I'm not saying i wouldn't have learnt anything or benefited from the course but I can't justify spending a grand on it.
As Shaheen has suggested there'll be quite a few micky mouse falconry centres making big bucks out of people wanting to do their bit for regulating falconry.

I bought some purse nets off them this season and have to repair them every time I use them.

Good stuff but it's a shame he was not at peak fitness otherwise he would of nailed that big dog fox.. ..

Might see you out there in Jan for my pig hunting trip, hope you have a great time mate I'm sure you will, here's my pig sticker ready for action.

I was out for a fly with the bird this evening, I noticed a fox about a 50yards away so thought I'd take a photo, the sun was low and behind so he couldn't see me at all, as he wandered on he flushed a rabbit and bird was off in pursuit, unfortunatly the slip was too long for this early in the season, but he had a good flight, heres the pic. You can see the fox left of centre.

You see my set up in the background of this photo.

Nice looking bird mate, looks like he's about to take your face off, good luck with him.

If it's responding instantly at that distance I wouldn't hang about on the creance, get him off and get him hunting.

Caught the bird up yesterday, changed his equipment etc, he was pretty wild. Put him out on the bow overnight, picked him up this morning and weighed him he was @ 665g, got him stepping up for doc, I use a 5 ft T perch at this stage so he doesn't feel so intimidated. I'll try him on the creance tomorrow, I'll get him down to 630g before I fly him free, I'm in no rush a couple of his tail feather's aern't right down yet. I got another 1000 acres of permission yesterday not many rabbits but heaving with crows and rooks. A couple of pic's of him on the post this morning.

I use Raptor Essentials and BioPlus, one tip I would offer is only buy a small tub because if you only have one bird the use by date will be past before you've used it all. I thought I was being smart buying a large tub 2 years ago but I've only used a third and the date runs out in September.

Big sigh of relief, you're on the way.
-
Good luck with him it'll be interesting to see how he adapts to hunting, he'll think he's died and gone to heaven.
-
It'll be worth waiting for mate.

Excellent poem Tony,
"But with each day there's lessons taught
Through hawks that you will learn."
How true is that.
