  1. I would say that is the best way to go about it. Quite honestly I did it the wrong way round. I got the XS78 before the S400 and spent a lot more on it than I intended to. The best way is as you have intimated. Get the gun you REALLY want first and then when you have the time and a little cash pick up an XS or QB78 and then tune and customise it at your leisure. That way you are still shooting and also have a project on the go. These gun also make superb full 6ft/lb pistols and that's something I'm seriously thinking of having a go at. BTW if you want to have a shoot with the gun PM me
  2. Magpies for me are a love - hate relationship. Close up they are beautifully marked bird with outstanding iridescent colours, excellent parents and very intelligent. I had one as a pet from a chick many years ago and it made a marvelous garden watchdog, making a terrific row if anyone was sneaking around and even nipping their heels. Kept well fed he never molested any songbirds and they seemed to know he didn't present a threat eventually as they would not be scared off. However the wild Magpie has got far too prolific and is one of natures many success stories - for the Magpie that is.
  3. All the tuning information IS in the public domain my friend, try the (Site Reference Pulled - CJ) site. Just be careful what you do and make sure you use a chrono. Do NOT tune it to more than 11.3 ft lbs in WARM weather as if gets hotter you will find your gun over the legal limit. If you don't feel confident doing it yourself and bear in mind the FULL tune is designed to take the gun over UK FAC levels there are companies that do the service for you. Ian Lamb of QB Tune is this countrys recognised expert tuner and the last time I used him it was £50 really well spent. He is also a mine
  4. If you are going to go down the XS78 route do not let me dissuade you but bear a number of things in mind. The guns ARE well made despite those who would say to the contrary and have a massive worldwide following. Those that would knock them have invariably never shot or owned one and its fashionable, nay compulsory, to slag them off if you own a gun of "designer" brand. These guns and their variants are highly tuneable and they are great fun - just Google them and start browsing. I faced the same misconceptions when I joined my current club but these guns are now a firm favourite amongst
  5. Surely a point well made. SMK of late has cleaned up it's act over some of the stuff they imported a few years ago. SMK import the stuff and get the choice of the best graded items which are then assembled in this country by SMK. The finish on their guns is of a much higher standard then the regular Industry Brand guns and for that you will pay a small premium. I can only fault SMK in their provision of spares. I STILL have to either source mine from the USA ie Archer Airguns or get them from T Robbs. If you do happen to need spares there doesn't seem to be much alternative though O ring
  6. Hi, I have a customised XS78 and yes they can be converted to take the 88G airsource type CO2 canister. However if that is all you want to do and not bulk fill, it wouldn't be cost effective to go down the MaxZbulk adapter route. You can see the MaxZbulk on my gun below. This was made by Max Balbuena in Honolulu and enables me to use either the two 12g canisters, 88g airsource, bulk fill or use a 12oz paintball bottle as in the photo. Your best bet if you want to use 88g would be simply to sell the gun you have and replace it with a QB79, XS79 or one of the many variants like the Kasu. It
  7. Hi folks, Just a quick post to introduce myself. An avid forum fan (retired and disabled) I don't get out shooting as much as I used to so forums help me fill in the gaps in my knowledge (don't know how I missed this forum until now). Keeps me out of trouble as well. I'm now 60 years of age and a grandfather of six, three of whom are shooting nuts too, thanks to Grandad. I own a very nice S400 but the pleasure of my life is my customised XS78. Once you've done a lot of tuning work on one of these things and ironed out all the kinks they are a reliable, accurate gun and great fun to s
  8. Really? I think £85 is a very good retail price for this gun or are you referring to the (often misheld) view that anything Chinese is a rip-off?
