  1. I have a Savage .223 with a 1.7 twist. Would using lighter bullets say 65 grain have an adverse affect on accuracy over heavier bullets like 73 or grain?
  2. Would seem from the gunsmiths report that the screw thread has not been done correctly!!!
  3. My CZ Style is still with the shop, so I have a feeling this was not the easy fix the shop was anticipating. I have been giving the problem some thought as too what I should reasonably expect from the gun out of the box; as CZ as far as I can see do not make any claims of MOA at x yards, so I need a few points of reference in case of dispute when I eventually collect the rifle.
  4. My old shotgun cleaning kit was rod, bronze brush and plastic jag. The new one thats just arrived, rod, bronze brush, wool mop, nylon brush and a spiral bronze "brush" type thing??? Proceedure before, brush through with cleaner swab out until clean job done. What's the spiral thing for? Still puzzled and no suggestions maybe I have give a bad description, so here is a pic of a conventional bronze brush and the spiral brush which I am enquiring about.
  5. how you getting on with the cz style,i have the same gun and it shoots spot on,i have the brooks kit on mine as the trigger out the box can be silly heavy, and cause you to struggle to get good groups, especially if your used to air rifle triggers,i got my brooks kit direct from usa, took a week and about £8.00 allin, and it is a doddle to fit, just be sure to do the drop test, and you dont allways need to put the pins in,mine is spot on with just a spring change, but went off on the drop test with a pin,on the same spring, just mess about,it will improve your shooting big style, and you soon be doing
  6. As I said we went through every thing tightened screw, changed the scope, used different ammo, different shooters, checked the crown with a bore scope. I shot with my mates Sako just to rule out me as the problem and I was getting groupings as big as a thumb nail. One thing I didn't do is remove the mod and try it! so my money is now on that. As I have only had the gun from new for 3 weeks I am taking it back to the shop as obviously there is some thing not right. I was expecting a lot from this CZ as I did a lot of ground work first and read quite a few good reports on the internet so a bit
  7. I recently purchased a CZ 452 Style with Parker Hale Mod as a cheap and cheerful .22 rimfire rabbiting rifle. Did a bit of research first and CZ rimfire was in the top 5 of Sporting Shooter rifles. I was not expecting competition type grouping, but maybe a 1†at 50 -60 yards, enough to give a clean kill. However when I took the rifle out to try for the first time (supposed to have been zeroed at the shop at 100yds)I set up a target at 65yds aimed a little low and bang not even on the A4 sheet size target. Me and a friend then spent 25 rounds each of Winchester Subsonics trying to get a consi
  8. it cant afect accuracy mate in less it gets in the way of the bullet what size is the thread i mite have one here you can have Don't know the thread size but it has a wildcat mod fitted. it could be a number of threads mate. what rifle is it on and what thickness is the barrel ? 12 series Savage .223 Low profile, stainless steel barrel 2cm dia. (last post for a week)

  10. Thanks all for that, most enlightening. I purchased the rifle as "factory threaded" but when there was not a device to protect the thread and the shop said there wasn't one in the box, I called the manufacturer who said they don't factory thread barrels! So obviously this was done by a gunsmith. I am not too worried if the shop can get me one made, but will a poorly made one affect accuracy?
  11. Whe a gun comes Factory Threaded is it reasonable to expect the original manufacturer to include a thread protection sleeve so that the gun can be used without the moderator attached? Simarlarly, if a barrel is threaded by a gunsmith can it be done so the gunsmith makes a sleeve to protect the thread while the moderator is not fitted.?
  12. I asked a similar question in Reloading, Optics, Ammunition & Accessories section (see below) as I have 2 new rifles and have been told about "running in new barrels" so I don't want to make any early mistakes. So if there is anyone who can give an informed procedure I am sure it will be of lasting interest on this forum. I am relatively new to rifle shooting, but have shot and cleaned shotguns for some years. However, the cleaning of a rifle is a somewhat different process and I am looking for some tips. I have read about bore guides; are they a necessary piece of cleaning kit?

I have read about bore guides; are they a necessary piece of cleaning kit? Are there any special cleaning procedures for a new rifle, particulary in respect of the barrel? Is there a universal cleaning kit available that will cope with several calibres and shotguns? And are "bore snakes" an alternative cleaning tool?
  14. Any suggestions as to ammo/bullet size for a .223 with 1:7 twist.
  15. Back after a few years away, so will probablly be posting a few qeustions as a lot has changed.
