  1. What I think you are saying is that rather than line breeding, get some fresh blood (that you think will boost the line). You cannot in-breed for a couple of generations without degrading the stock.
  2. As you say source is everthing. Having bucket fed the horses, thrown something down for the garden cats (not something they had killed and left for me this morning on the hearth). I took the canines for a "walk" round the policies. Lots or crashing about in the undergrowth. Anyway the upshot was that wa ended up with two lovely young rabbits, et all. On returning to the Bothy I ventured round to the cuntivated patch of countryside and ingathered some potatoes, carrots & mangetout peas. Breadcrumb the rabbit, pan fry it in a bit of butter from the evry obliging Jersey cow, and the job
  3. I have owned Beardie/Grehound X Working Deerhounds for the last five decades. My current one, it's Dam, litter sister, all had to be spayed for medical reasons. The bitch still works well and does the business. I have been trying to source another potential breeding bitch for the last year (see my wanted ad). The only person I have heard of who has gone out there to source a working Beardie as a Stud dog is Hancock. My contacts in god's country, (Scotland), tell me that the only good, working stud dogs will have to come from off-shore, ie the Outer Hebrides. Some may be some found up the
  4. Whilst it is nice to be able to track your dogs back a few generations, and will even help you when you start to think on what it is you might breed to your bitch the next time round, if you are not extatic with the current generation, then they might be of some use. Personaly I do not have much faith in pedigrees and that is with KC registered animals. If you do not know and have faith in or have someone vouch for the breeder then you can hang them on the nail next time you go down the garden for a bit of a sit down.
  5. PS To all you Beaver lovers. They arrempting to release them into the wild in GB, all you have to do is get out there and get them. However you have to watch out for sores around your mouth if you try to eat one.
  6. Try Humble Pie. That willl draw your cheeks together. and stop all this showboating.
  7. Decent day with only a few showers of rain. After the weather of the past fortnight who's complaining. Don't know anything about the Terriers, nasty, yappy, agressive little things. Suffer from small man syndrome. Weejohn got reserve champ. Well done. Picking up some tickets just now, what with your ticket at Hawick. Skelp your erse at Jed. Good on you, who has the full results and the pics.
  8. Hi. I am in the market for a pup or very young bitch. Can you let me know where the kennels are so I could have a look. Even if they dont suit me someone somethere will rehome them.
  9. On reflection the 4th one is probably a "Poor b*****d" if he is usually treated like that.
  10. 1st one looked to be some sort of Saluki cross 2nd one because of the docked tail possibly a German short haired pointer 3rd one possibly an Englist pointer pup 4th one you will have to ask your taxidermist
  11. I really need to get get a grip of technology, with both hands.
  12. Did they have digital cameras pre-ban?
  13. Rather than the straight Grey/Deer I prefer to have a Beardie/Grey bitch to a working deerhound. Injects some brains and gives then feet as tough as old army boots. Still it needs a decent sized field for rabbits anything else it will cope with. Pre ban I tried not to run them on fox, they tended to just knock them over rather then do the deed. My preferred cross works best on the hills with rough cover.
  14. I have only used it on my horses. Bit of a pain to use according to the instructions but if you did, it did what it said on the tin. My partner is a Vet Nurse so all the dogs get freebies.
  15. Tried it but onto an answering system and no reply as yet. Just too impatient to wait I suppose.
  16. I Haven't seen it advertised other than in the show list from Ron Hodgson. Can anybody tell me if it is still on?
  17. Hi youall out there. Can anybody tell me when the show is being held and when it starts. I would guess that it will be held at the Wells, Bedrule (not far from Hawick). It is nice and local and there is usually some racing after (muzzles required)
  18. Based in the Scottish Borders, keep a couple of horses, couple of dogs and a few garden cats. Grow most of my veg in my organic garden. Due to illness I have had to give up shooting (unless I can be carted to a peg and left there) Still manage to get out with my lurchers and sort out the rabbits in my paddocks or neighbours' ground. I would love to get some experience in longnetting.
