  1. this seems a good choice to me,i also use imp, cilinder for shooting rabbits bolted by ferrets as they tend to be abit closer Harris' Hawk works quite well for me in such situations!
  2. DSC 1 and 6000 acres of permission does help my application!
  3. Spot on! A fit motivated Harris is deadly; I'm flying mine at 3oz over her usual hunting weight. Why? Very simple, everything she catches is hers. I only look for one kill per outing and she is well aware that if she makes a kill then the rewards are huge. Motivation, fitness and confidence in a Harris' makes for a bird that can give a Gos, albeit without the speed, a run for its money with a lot less potential trouble! Goshawks don't think, they just react; a Harris' will anticipate, plan and react. Can a Gos think about the future! No. I've seen my Harris' anticipate where the quarry

  5. Yep, first FAC for a .308. He was here for about an hour; nice bloke and also a stalker, so he gave me a lot of good advice.
  6. Seems to be true; had my FEO visit this evening and it will be an open ticket from the start.
  7. I KNOW THAT ....... BUT I WAS WANTING TO HAVE ONE FITTED TO MY 95 IF POSSIBLE Writing in caps is known as shouting! Why do you need to shout?
  8. I really feel for you blokes down South; getting permission sounds an absolute nightmare. Best of luck and keep trying!
  9. No need to shout! The HW90 is a gas ram air rifle.
  10. Some years ago I headshot and killed a buck rabbit at what turned out to be 76 long paces away with a .177 HW90K. I thought it was a lot closer than it actually was; the first shot hit the track some 2/3 of the way to the rabbit. "Scope has taken a knock" thought I and held over for the second shot and killed the rabbit. In my defence, I should point out that the way the fence line ran down the side of the track gave the optical illusion of considerable foreshortening, i.e making the apparent range much shorter than the actual range, and it was a very big buck rabbit well over four pounds i
  11. For a person in that position, then I would not term them a beginner!
  12. I have to get my hawk somewhere in the right place, not that she is too bothered about that! Much easier for you shooters!! Do you want to control the rabbits or just have some good sport?
  13. A Gos is not and never will be suitable for a beginner.
  14. I certainly can help with your original question, but I sincerely would advise you not to get a Gos as a first bird. They are temperamental, very highly strung, easy to lose and not something to be taken lightly. For myself, I would love to have a Gos, but I would have to get rid of all my other birds to do justice to a Gos. A HH might not have the speed of a Gos, but it does have intelligence, sociability and the ability to work as part of a team. Goshawks are off the fist missiles; nice if you can handle them properly but a lot of trouble if you can't. Get a Harris'/Redtail first and le
  15. I hope you aren't getting a Gos as a first bird?
  16. Forgive my ignorance, but who is Karen Bradbury?
  17. Got my FEO visit for a .308 this Wednesday...
  18. Sounds like a warranty claim unfortunately, certainly not usual to have such problems with a new rifle and factory rounds.
  19. Are there any marks on the rim where the extractor claw should have engaged on the case?
  20. Take the bolt out and fit the empty case onto the bolt face and have a look at how much retention the extractor claw actually has on the rim.
  21. Fixable or need to take it back to shop? The extractor claw is not properly engaging the rim of the case for some reason. Is it broken or deformed? Certainly a warranty issue for a new rifle.
  22. Sounds like the plunger ejector is not working for some reason, you'll have to strip the bolt down to find the cause of the problem. I take it that the extractor works and removes the case from the chamber?

Get her out and hunting in the near future, those feathers will grow out soon. They aren't vital.
