  1. Hello all, I currently have a Tikka T3 lite 6.5x55 and wondered if anyone can tell me what sort of recipe I would need to home load 140g soft point bullets. I need to know what powder and how much to use, which head would be good etc, I know what all rifles are different but if someone could give me a starting block I would appreciate it. I currently use 140g soft point federal power shock which the rifle seems to like, so I will be re-using this brass. Cheers langouroux
  2. hello boys and girls, I have a request! My old dad is a keen bird watcher, and due to ill health he has little else to do with his time now’er days, quite surprisingly he has recently had a red kite visit!!!! He has asked me if what sort of food he should put out for it, and I guess the easiest and cheapest way would be putting out the odd rabbit. The only problem is I live 320 miles away now so I can't get any to him. Can anyone help? He doesn't need loads, and I would be wiling to cover and fuel etc for dropping them off / shooting them. Or if anyone found them selves in Cornwall I
  3. just rang the local gae dealer....80p a rabbit! guts out, skin on!
  4. eh? £15! are you sure? not down here mate!
  5. Absolutely no reason, other than some machismo trophy..... Serves no purpose.... Personally I bury every shot fox........... (its a requirement of the land I shoot, which is subject to public access...) actually there is an old wives tail saying that if you hang a fox on a fence then other foxes will detered by it.....its bullsh*t of course! but it isn't a machismo trphy thing as far am i am aware!?
  6. Here is what my mate does who is a keen whippet owner. His dog was 7 months old when we started ferreting at the beginning of the season. We never let him work, he is just there to watch for the first few outings. Then we catch a live rabbit preferably something small that isn’t going to be to quick although still fully grown due to time of year obviously. He let’s his dog run and catch it. Then at the end of the season we will let him run on 1 other rabbit. Then leave the dog until the following winter. So the dog doesn’t start proper work until it is well over 12 months o
  7. sorry for the delay - i have been up in Dorset having some fun with bullmastiff and another lads from THL. Well that is a very good question mate....the alano espanol is a very old breed, manly used for boar but also do protection work etc. my dog is very clever and a multi tasker, is capable of taking various quarry but lacks in speed. he has an exceptional nose and marks rabbits when ferreting etc, but then main things is bite power.....he has A LOT of it! I know you will say that all bull's have a lot of bite power which is true but the alano is specifically breed fro holding boar, an
  8. Hi there, I have a 14 acre small holding, we keep shire horses and other breeds mainly, but I do have pigs (large black & Gloucester old spot) sheep are arriving in spring I only ever take on orphan lambs as they are free or very cheap and you slaughter them in the same year so no shearing, breeding, having to keep a ram etc. I also have ducks chickens dogs cats ferrets etc! Pigs trash your land, you will need to rotate where they live in an ideal world. and cost a small fortune to feed! A house cow or dairy cow …..there isn’t enough room for! So do not listen to the above!
  9. I have a mate that may be able to help you out, i get all my ferrets from him.....but we are way down in cornwall mate!
  10. Hi Everyone, I have never put a dog to stud before and I am thinking of putting my Alano espanol x to stud this year – ideally to make a quality bull x or running alaunt or whatever you wanna call it! Not something with to much muscle as the pups would end up to heavy. I am asking for genuine advice so any sarcastic, know it all, arm chair hunters that haven’t bred before don’t bother replying because I’m not interested. Much obliged. Happy Hunting Langouroux. Bullmastiff – see you Monday I’ll ask your advice then!
  11. I know this thread is a bit old....but I can’t believe no one uses RWS !? Its all I have ever used!!! I have tried Winchester which has good knock down power but lacks consistency. You only have to look at the shape of the bullet heads to see why they are inconsistent! I think Remington sub’s are sh*t personally as are CCI. I haven't tried eley.
  12. i think you done that fox a favour mate!
  13. i use 7.5's for everything mate!shoting bolting rabbits with ferrets, pigeon, shot 5 pheasant rough shooting with them the other day. 7.5's are king! unless your shooting fox's !
