  1. The protein in that stuffs soya , not animal, it wont keep the ferrets urine ascidic enough possibly causing struvite sones to build up I feed my ferret on dry cat food, it says it's got rabbit and duck in it. He also gets fresh rabbit, hare, road kill sqirrels etc. I had a jill live to 14 years on the same sort of diet, always has fresh water of course
  2. I did the same thing as you many years ago. I think the best thing is to go in on your own and see the main man, he should sort it out, they don't want bad publicity, but make sure someone knows where you're going in case it turns bad. Don't go in with a gang unless you're prepared to go to war.
  3. Nice one, or should I say, nice two :clapping:
  4. Great pics again from fireman! I'm enjoying this
  5. Absolutely brilliant, I enjoyed that, just what I was looking for! I just finished reading Brian Pummer's; Diary of a hunter, he must of been one of the best rat hunters of all time!
  6. So where's your story or pics? You certainly have a way with words
  7. Does anyone have any ratting stories to tell? I've been through 9 pages of posts and haven't found any! I don't have any terriers, but love to read about terriers working rats  Are rats hard to find nowadays?
  8. I've said it before, but personally I woudn't use a whippet cross for lamping. (See my posts) We used whippet crosses years ago, (mainly because there wasn't much else at the time) and they were always getting injured one way or another. Since the only thing you can legally hunt with dogs is rabbits and rats in this country, I'd use collie lurcher, preferably with a dash of saluki. Otherwise I'd go for a bull cross.
  9. An even better idea. Take them off at 3 or 4 days old. Not many running dogs get through life without injuring dew claws! didnt breed the dog mate or wood av done it Well at least you've made the effort to rectify the problem. Good for you, and good luck
  10. An even better idea. Take them off at 3 or 4 days old. Not many running dogs get through life without injuring dew claws! PS. In my experience I've found the dew claws on whippet crosses stick out like sore thumbs

  12. Cat collar and lead from the pound shop, somtimes they sell retractable leads as well. I wont tell you the price, let you guess!
  13. The new mk3 collar uses 393 silver oxide, but these will not work in my old micro collar. The only ones that work are the same size, but in alkaline version. I think it's because they are a different voltage! They're on ebay, listed as AG5........ looks like i got a bum collar then we tried an AG5 and it DID fit.. but nothin happened. Granted the guy wasn't sure it worked as he'd never tried it.. only used the terrier collar which works fine lol but we dont NEED one of them .. figures eh ? Also... the "terrier collar" locator is bigger of course, but deben lists it a

  16. Do you have a long drive to where you ferret, or is it local? I just read Fred Taylor's new book, he camped out for days at a time when ferreting in Aus...
  17. i,ve bolted foxes, feral cats, stoats, mink, little owls, rock doves, a wild ferret , a polecat, a couple of rats , and a wee mouse that came out and tucked itself up beside a fresh killed rabbit for warmth on a cold day in woodland . How wild was the ferret?
  18. In my first twenty years of ferreting, (started at nine) I bolted a few squirrels, stoats, two mink, foxes, an owl,and a cat. I can't remember ever bolting a weasel, a friend of mine bolted a hare
  19. Hia chuk. Personally, I would get something with a bit more substance. I don't like a lot of whippet in a lamping or coursing dog because I believe they're more prone to injury. We used them years ago. (whippet greyhounds)They were always being laid up for one injury or another, and they were bred from top class racing whippet stock. Probably suit you if you only go out for a couple of rabbits now and again, but that is only my opinion. I'm sure there are some very good ones about.
  20. We went lamping again last night. Well if it’s Easter it’s got to be a full moon, apparently that’s how it’s worked out, and that’s why it’s so early this year, it’s the earliest Easter since 1913. Luckily for us it was blowing a gale mixed in with squally showers, although the showers were a bit heavy for my liking. I set off to my mates on the motorway, the traffic was really heavy, I’ve never seen it so heavy at 9pm. 40mph in the outside lane, but at least it was moving We watched a video about salukis, while eating burgers from the local takeout, my mate’s lad at
  21. As someone else said. If it's dark, game on, the darker the better. Sometimes I nip out local for a couple of hours, if I'm working next day. Otherwise it's an all nighter depending on weather conditions, uasually midnight to 4 or 5 in the morning
  22. You must be king of the hunters then........
  23. Thanks for the all the comments. Looks like I put someones blood pressure up. Lol
  24. Maybe I should have explained. I don't use a gun, and I only lamp rabbits!
