  3. Anyone know where I can buy Skinners dog food in the north west UK
  4. ""good point, but should other people be able to stop my dog if he is being a pain?"" Yes but you dont want him to become unsure if he hears a barage of contradictory comands else he will start to ignore your commands thinking they are just noise or worse that they must be for someone else. When I first started training my dog I was told by many people to think ahead so you can avoid situations that would be detrimental (ie minimising the chance of your dog to disobey) in your training. This has been cofirmed again by the books that Ive reccommened.
  5. i have 2 cocker spainels mate what i use is 2 slow blasts to stop one long one to sit and 2 fast ones to come back they seam to work well if you go to game fairs and that you will see they ues the same hope this helps. its not easy training a dog but if you be a member of the field tral clubs they is people on there that can train your dogs for freee Why would you want to have 2 commands to do the same job? If your dog sits it's stopped!!!. Get a book / dvd and make the effort to learn. You can use what ever commands you want but just make sure you stick to them & do them
  6. I just cut em off and threw em on top of the combi boiler and after a few days they were bone dry and there was no smell either
  7. Going a bit off the subject Ive got two pointer/retrever books for sale Bill Tarrent Problem Gundogs and Best Way to Train your Gun Dog The Delmar Smith Method. If you want them PM me Ben
  8. Ive been breeding English Springers for 23 yrs, the two acros the middle of the photo look like theyre well bred, the dog at the back looks like a springer x setter and the bitch sitting at the front looks more like a sprocker than a springer i wouldnt be proud to own those 2, just my opinion P Smith BOLLOCKS Good looking DOGS and a cracking picture
  9. You can choose any command signal you want but if you want to beat with your dog I would reccommend selecting different commands because if there are half a dozen dog all with the same or similar whistle commands it just confuses the dogs, seen it happen more than a few times. The norm is: 1 short blast = sit/stop 2 short blast = return to you 3 short blast = change direction There is then hand signals for left, right, go back, heel. Personally Ive got my own signals on the whistle Joe Irving Their Learning Chain and Trianing Spaniels: PRA Moxon

  11. hi all, thanks very much to everyone replying, it sounds like patience is the way to go with a cocker, can anyone recommend some good reading regarding training, thanks again. Joe Irving "their learning chain" the best book of the 30 odd that Ive read
  12. Joe Irving books are the better ones esp "the Learning Chain"
  13. I just throw em on top the boiler for a couple of days no smells, no falling to bits except when used a lot, no problems
  14. Ask for some wings off the birds that are shot and rubber band them to a dummy and get your dog to fetch it
  15. Look at the Dam And Sire of the pup's, If both are small dog's There is a Very good chance you will get a small springer. Also why not just get a cocker, then you are definatley going to get a small dog? cheer's My cockers litlle big and sometimes gets confussed (accused) of being a springer probably because hes chocolate roan but I tell his hes too damn good looking to be a springer
  16. On the "putting out of misery theme" Ive taken people out on my permission who would happily shoot and accidently wound rabbits and watch them suffer than ending their suffering and when Ive necked them or used other methods Ive been called a psyco sick fu*ken cruel bas*ard. Some people should never have survived childhood!!

  18. my own experience with this years back is that it prevented wounds drying up/healing even becomeing inflamed.never touched it again. I use it mixed with tea tree oil and it heals everything. The smell of the oil puts the dog off licking or chewing the wound aswell

  20. My dog was /is the same. I found that you have to stead him to everything one at a time. Example in the case of wild fowl I go to a lake where kids feed the ducks, geese ect then have him sat on a lead at first watching from a couple of feet away and once hes stoppped bouncing arround like zebadee on speed and sitting nicely at your side then try without a lead but be ready to grab him. praise him when he sits, bollock him if he moves (it took months). Then move on to whatever you like maybe rabbits, small birds, pigeons, sheep, cows ect. The only creatures mine doesnt chase are other dogs and
