I'm a butcher by trade from I left school ive been boning beef from i was 15 so the kids alway have a good understanding of where food comes from and about the quality welfare and so on of the animals in the UK compared to other countries and the importance of buying locally

when the youngsters take a interest in dogs and hunting from a young ages ive always drilled it into them about the need for pest control and what the different dogs jobs are and so on ive never forced it on them both girls have been out digging and the young boy has never had a interest he is football mad and boxing but no doubt he will ask some day to take a run out but this we girl is dog and hunting mad

we have been on the look out for a couple entered foxhounds to add to are pack for the start off the season as we just keep getting more and more ground to hunt with no luck we had a few offers but they where older hounds who had been left to riot so that was a no go as we have a few young dogs that I spent abit of time getting straight as much as dislike harriers against my better judgment we picked a few up of a real gentleman who in all fairness told me the older hounds would hunt hares so they have setteled in and today was first day trying get them of hares rabbits and deer I got a g

they do have a great nose but most the real good one i have see would back track abit do see it as much with the foxhounds

id a welsh fell dog and as a first season hound after hunting on way to load up he would run of once he got acouple feet from the trailer use to really get to me so after a few time I use to just drive off leaving him he use to run along after us by the end the season there was no messing about straight in he went with the rest

I never had that problem with the welsh I had but then again I never had a full pack off them just the two full welsh and welsh fell cross

you have a number for him mate I could see what's going on with the dog ive took on acouple mad harrier that came from a fox pack but will hunt a hare but as you say the fella just did nt try stop them so another may be ok but wont be put in with the rest till I get them broke if you could get me a number would be a great help

and in all fairness the pups wont be a problem as I can wait or breed and plenty of mates have told me that when they breed im more than welcome to what I need its more acouple of entered hounds ill be needing or some thing round the year old mark

That that's what I'm scared of myself mate ive got couple young dogs there that ive got sorted and think they will end up decent just don't want these couple harriers undoing all the hard work that been done

I know it can be done its just gonna be hard work ahead with them especially the older dog that's been been doing it acouple of seasons for a hound that's been created to hunt hares its gonna take some effort to stop but that time and effort will be put in that you can be sure of

how are they with hares and deer as most are county holes both and I would rather do with out then have mad harriers that hunt anything when you have had a pack of 9 couple that only hunted fox never lift there head on anything else it just make hunting that much more stress free
