  1. Hi all I have a golden retriever that’s 12 years old and for most of his life he has had ear infections seen different vets and they have all come up with the same conclusion that it is a form of fungus and give me drops to put in. The fungus clears up with in a few days then it comes back after a couple of weeks and we go through it all again. The vet bills are starting to get more and more. Is there anything out there that I can by on the internet or over the counter that will work and I will just keep on treating him even once it it’s cleared up on a weakly basis. Any information , advice or ideas would be great ,he is an old man but a great dog and this is the only problem.

Can't beat a small hob built like a jill... Best one I've ever seen we found him on top of the coal tips one weekend when we was out on our crossers.... It looked like it was on its last legs everytime you took it out the box.... We used to joke, if rabbits didn't bolt in the first few minutes... You was digging him?I swear he would mark Warren's like a dog... He could kill a fully grown buck quicker than the biggest polecat hobs we had... Named him Simon Hobbs after one of the boys ?was a proper f***ing weapon? dirty cnuts nicked him along with a load of my old English game bantams and the dogs we kept at the allotment ?DSC00928_002.jpg.13a082421a241f7e54c5fd90a83d45c1.jpg

I don’t understand why people people need to steal other peoples stuff it’s so wrong. I have been lucky with all my animals but I do know of two people that have had ferrets stolen. And both of them now when selling ferrets meet the people who want to by them at a park or pub car park. People who steel need their hands cut of. Steeling animals is like having someone kidnapping your child.

  3. Well guys just an update on the ferrets and thank you to all for the advise.  I have been swapping the ferrets around in their cages and been feeding them all together and swapping them around the last week or two. I now have 4 of the five ferrets getting along well. Three hobs and one Jill. The two white / sandy ones are brother and sister from the same litter. The other two the pole cats got from a mate swapped them for three jills. Only draped them as no one was interested in them. When time comes I will get all the hobs cut. I still have one hob that is still punching on who is the son of the Jill.  It I will work on it if all else fails he can go and I will get another one. And try again to build a good team. If their is anyone else out their with any ideas please pass on the ideas. At the end of the day and everyone has their own opinion but I have always worked cut hobs ( in Australia we call them cut bucks ) with my Jill when not in season. Once again thanks for all the advice.

  4. Everyone has their own opinion on which ferrets to work some say the jills are better than hobs not as big and can get into smaller spots and not as quick. But in only my opinion with the jills being smaller if they get thumped by a rabbit they can cop it hard. They can get onto the smaller spots to get the rabbits but in the past found they would hold you up.  The biggest problem for me Is you need to breed them every year and for me to do that it’s quite hard as I like to have a team of 4 to 5 ferrets. Yes I do have one Jill and this season just gone she had 8 young’s but I only got one hob. The other thing is when you want to use them they are in young and unable to use them. The most important thing to me is are they going to a responsable owner. My personal ones I like is to work cut hobs. They don’t fight they only think with one head they can look after them self under ground when on a big rabbit. And you can keep them all in the same pen. At the moment I am working on some new stock and so far so good three new young ones from this year and one from last year 4 hobs.  But I still run my Jill when she is not in season or with young. This is just my prefrance. All ferreters have their own opinion their is no right or wrong answer on what you hunt with. As long as everyone is happy.

  5. Well my personal preference is the pole cats as I find the white, sandy, albinos to look to plain. As the polecats just look better to me. But you are corrected white ones are much easier to see.  But does the colour of the eyes matter weather they are black or pink. I have always been led to believe that the black eyed ferrets worked better underground as the eye sight is better dose it really matter.  What is other people’s opinion on this.

  6. Prices are the same in Australia this season we are flooded with ferrets for sale but the prices are all over the place. The one thing I alway wounded they advertise them from good working lines. Does it really matter as I always had thought it was just in them to hunt it’s just the way you bring them up and looking after them. DA43D69D-ED85-46BD-8D3A-438C8EBE7CDF.png.b83b3de5e5b4ad7d7f6ffff760cab6a4.pngC1444747-AB57-4756-BCF3-1F5002A9E08D.png.81006a8812ce0c156dd98b37074bd768.png

  7. Yep nothing like a call and you go and get one or two rabbits as when some people say they have rabbits hopping around the garden. City slickers no idea they think two or three rabbits are a major problem.

  8. At the moment the ferrets are out of season but what I have being doing is introducing the new ones with the female and than been put in her back with the other ones. With your idea sounds great and I will definitely take it on board and give it a shot. I will give you guys an up date on how I go so everyone can learn. Tnx for the advice.

  9. Well today while doing things in the back yard I put the two new hobs together with my Jill all was good for the day the Jill is the albino. I did put the other hob in every now and then and took him out for a break he is the son of the Jill not in the photo. All seems to be going well if I keep at it hopefully I can put them all together.  One question when is the best time to get the hobs cut I have planes to get four of them done so I can hopefully have a good team of workers that won’t fight with each other

  10. Doing that may be difficult as the ferrets you have already may be related to the ones you get and that is something you don’t want. Getting new blood from someone who you know and the ferrets are not related is a very important thing. This is a problem we are starting to see in Australia where I live as not a lot of people have ferrets.  My mate is currently looking for some new blood to breed his fire ball ferrets with he is very particular on the colours. I have heard of one bloke who bought some ferrets another state in Australia and had them sent down to him on jet pet ca$t quite a few dollars but he did say it was worth it.  Maybe that is why the price of ferrets are so high. People at the moment are asking up to $250 Australian dollars.  Good luck buddy hope you find what you are looking for.

  11. The best weather that we have found to be is on a calm day not to hot as it is unfair on the ferrets and the dogs. On a hot day we never seem to get any good results and the same on a windy day. When it’s wet and cold forget it I don’t like getting wet and freezing my but of.

  12. Thank you to all for help I have 4 large cages so separating them is not a problem it’s when I work them as some of warrens and wood piles I do I like to use 3 or 4 ferrets as they are quite large and I seem to get better results with a team of ferrets than using just to. Anyway today I am at home and I am able to put them in a large cage that I have and be able to keep an eye on them do a little bit of mixing the about and see how they go.

  13. No the older hob is out of season and the younger hobs haven’t dropped yet the main ferret that seems to be causing the problem is the young one but the big hob doesn’t seem to be fussed. The old hob and the five month hob never seem to have a problem with each other  maybe tomorrow morning I will put the old hob with the two new ones and keep a close eye on them  My second question when is the best time to get the hobs  cut  I always liked the cut hobs as I can work them all year around  and don’t have to worry about breading 4 or 5 jills  my last litter I ended up with 5 jills and one hob from my Jill

  14. What is the best way to introducing new ferrets to other ferrets. I have 3 ferrets that get along really well two of them are brother and sister around 18 months old and a hob that is around 5 months old who is the sun of my Jill. I have just picked up two more hobs that are around 4 to 5 months old I have Had all of  them together for short periods of time but the two old hobs seem to be picking on the two new ones biting them and dragging them around. Unsure weather to leave them all together and let them sort it out but I don’t really want to do that. Any advise will great as in the past I have always bought ferrets in small numbers of three or four that have been together and never had to worry about it. What I am trying to achieve is four good working bucks that I will get cut.

  15. It’s great to see their are people out their that are willing to gift a ferret something I have not heard of in Australia. People down here just want $$$$. I swapped 3 jills for two hobs and quit a few people said I was mad.
