Makes it more fun when you got keep an eye out for keeper

We once took a deaf lad out lamping he was a shit hot Lampert when driving down the lanes sat on door. He'd tap on the roof and do antler sign with his fingers on his head. Took hi roosting a few pheasants one night he's walking round a big wood dropping em for fun we heard someone coming from towards keepers house so we've half hid behind some big trees trying to wave at him. he was still shooting em with keeper a few yard off him keeper lit him up with a torch the lad set off running straight to motor ffs was hilarious

Like you, I'm old enough to remember before the saluki type arrived ! ??

Up here the deer cross was the " go too" type for daytime hare and roe.

Billy Docherty had great results with pure and cross Deerhounds, and I remember some of the Ashington match dogs, Thor and the Widdrington Train spring to mind. Heavily deerhound blooded dogs, and there was a lad from around Durham ran the same types in matches around Drax.

Even our old pal Tomo had some success with a whippet/grey x deer/grey.

But according to some, these deer types have no prey drive, are big lumbering curs........maybe the quarry wasn't as fast back then, or maybe we were easily pleased back then ? ? Or perhaps the people who don't rate them haven't really seen a good 'un run ? ??

    Cheers.

One of kenny halls best dogs Lucas was deerhound blooded he was on about it when he got pic sent of a bitch my pal bought in couple week back

The best of hares take that long to catch, I’ve seen real fast types with good mouths given short slips and still get blown away in the end by a strong hare as that type of dog dont have that extra weapon of bottomless stamina which is needed to catch the best hares that why saluki cross are the best, you can’t say you’ve got a top notch dog if it can’t catch a top notch hare

Yeah but them lads with collie crosses and beddy crosses catch hares so must be hare dogs ?? I know a couple spots where I've took lads that thought they had good dogs and get their arsed dragged about for a few min then hare drops a gear and pulls away. There the spots I run to see how second season dog us shaping up if it kills em there they'll kill anywhere the best of hares.

You could be, right ?? ave been told on good authority they where £100 a pop, good few years ago,....but the person who informed me, didn't want to pay £20 for one now, currently?,........its no problem,  they'll be catching moles before long, hopefully ?

I had 7 tins of old webley pellets all full tins sticker was 1.70 a man came and gave 140 for em ? they were scrap to me but he shot the older .22 cal springers that loved em. One man's rubbish and all that if you've not got a lot in em use em. I bought some old gin traps in a bundle off ebay couple year back for in the mandate on the walls. There's one that's tiny just big enough for a mouse. It's caught a few round the chicken feed drums
