    Call Ducks

Maybe put down some decoys in the pond it should make more ducks come in.. and feed it too.. if you were to put in reared ducks I herd you would have to take out vermin in the surrounding area foxes etc..
  2. Hey all Going to feed the pond soon.. there was bird flu confirmed about 20 miles from me.. just a question is there any tail tale signs of bird flu on a duck? Just to be sure incase I shot one! Also it was a wild duck that had bird flu!! Edit: just came back from feeding around 12 seen nothing come off the pond but all my feed was gone again! Cold but a clear day hopefully some nice shooting tonight.. just another question I've herd that you should always leave the tail end of the flight to come into the pond.. is that correct? I will be shooting for half or so in to dark
  3. Cheers.. Will go tomorrow morning feeding it again! Hopefully I'll have a shot tomorrow will post up how it goes.. Thanks all.
  4. Will have a go tomorrow night if all goes well!! Be there around 30 mins before dusk

    Good Night

Good shooting hpr!! The dog looks well pleased!
  6. Cheers hpr Went to feed it today no ducks though wierd the pond was frozen but the ice is supposed to go but it could be frozen in the morning, I fed it with a bucket of barley, scraps etc broke up the ice around the feed, no more snow just raining now.. still a good idea do you think hpr?
  7. Cheers hpr should I shoot it this week ? Then the last week of the season? Will feed it tomorrow and Saturday morning. Then shoot it Saturday evening ? Will put some pictures up if all goes well. It was snowing today so it's bloody freezing!!! Cheers all.
  8. Cheers for the compliment i suppose! Have been shooting with rifles for a good few years.. have shot rabbits right beside this pond too! But just got a shotgun this September so I guess I'm kind of inexperienced with shotguns in general. Feeding the pond tomorrow, Then again saterday, 2 times a week.. will be shooting 2 times before the season closes!
  9. you seem to more than you are saying and that's a splash not a pond What are you on about Leslie?
  10. Cheers mate.. Im planning on going on twice in the last two weeks if the weather is windy etc, meanwhile feeding the pond.. just wondering what cartridge do you use? am using a 36gram 5shot
  11. Cheers bell not sure if I'm allowed to setup permanent hides but I can put up normal camo hide etc.. so a wet and windy night is best? I'll won't be shooting for a good until I have everything setup.
  12. Cheers I've got the the training spaniels a great book, In his book he shows a kennel and run ( I think around page 20 ish or so) and I'm getting a few lads to help me to build it!
  13. Thanks hpr, Does it matter if you spook ducks that are in the pond when you arrive no? Also would I need a hide? It's fairly open should I get some camouflage netting?
  14. Cheers will do that.. two good flights before the season hopefully! Just a question what time should I be there an hour before dark? I have a few decoys I'll put down too.
  15. Cheers HPR, Might shoot it every weekend (Every saterday) so feed it twice every week with 1 bucket sounds good?
  16. Cheers.. Getting a run around 10ft by 3ft wide and a kennel for him during the day When im gone to work I'll put him in there. then left him out in the evening.. will be walking twice a day for 10mins until he's a bit bigger.. will have someone check up on him 2pm so 9am-2pm Sounds good? I might have misunderstood you here. But I wouldn't kennel a pup with an older dog. Separate runs at all times when they are not supervised. Otherwise, as long as there is a place for him to den up and be warm he'll be fine. I should probably add the most important thing to remember. Enjoy
  17. Cheers hpr, It was actually around 9:30 not dark at all.. Was wet day alright. I'm going to feed it during the week barley etc. Just a question hpr When do you think i should shoot the pond? before the season closes? Thanks all
  18. Hi all Just after coming down from checking the pond, yesterday I put in around 3/4 of a bucket was a bit low on the barley.. and all of it was gone!! When I went I spooked around 40 ducks, teal etc.. I shot one mallard ( he was in the stream beside the pond) could have got more.. I'll be away for awhile but when I'm Going to put more feed into the lake when I'm back a bucket and loads of rotten spuds etc.. for the end of the season I plan on staying waiting for the ducks to come.. is there any conditions weather wise which is good to shot at night? Full moon etc just a question how many duck
  19. Cheers hpr Will do that have some from the garden that are going rotten they might do? Hopefully the feeding will bring more ducks in!
  20. Cheers lads it's some sort of flood but there's a stream when flooded makes this flood/pond a good bit bigger, I put the rolled barley into the shallows, HPR I've a ton of spud peelings etc would ducks like that? Anything else I can put in?
  21. Just after putting a bucket into the pond, it's down a good bit from the last time I was here, seen 10 duck come off Here's a picture hopefully it works. I put the feed In around 4 or 5 inches of water. EDIT: had to post it on a photo site because there to big to upload https://m.imgur.com/a/slbjw
  22. Will have a picture up of the large pond in a few days! Thanks all.
  23. I don't get what you mean ? Did I post something inappropriate or what? Frankly I've only started shooting recently and now you're saying "I hope our moderators think likewise and have a little look at you" am I off my rockers?!?! Instead of saying that why don't you give me advice what a forum should be used for. I've been on many forums but I don't get what you're saying maybe saying that a dog isn't needed is not the correct thing to say on my point, but you could have atleast told me why as I've said I've only been shooting for a short while and I'm only posting and asking to gain mor
  24. Unfortunately don't have a dog getting one early February for next season the pond is very shallow and it's not big so I don't really need a dog. Cheers for the replys
  25. Cheers Just a stupid question I normally go there at 4 when I'm there normally all I see around 30 birds mallards etc at 4pm, I go around to the other ponds and leave then 4:30 or later.. just wondering would more birds be coming in later in evening ? Bringing a big bucket full of barley and other scraps !! Probably a very stupid question but I've only hunted for ducks a handful of times! Cheers.
