Anyone In The U.s Using Terriers
Shoebootie replied to kyboy44's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Well put glyn, the only thing that matters are the terriers are getting work. When I got into terriers I looked all over to find people really working with them and you hear all the names to go to and I shortly stumbled across a guy in my own back yard that hunts terriers that nobody has ever even heard of, very good terrier man with excellent dogs. I guess the point is there are some good people at this that aren't in the spot light of things. I've done some talking with tj here from the states , he's a very nice guy and was all about the work of the dogs. I remember him telling me the same t -

So foxdropper you are telling me you personally worked coon with your dogs? To say a coon is no better than a feral cat is way off base. So you say you're opinion is based off fact is what you are saying? Well go on and educate me , I'd love to hear your experience with coons and your dogs. -

We do have plenty of fox here but the problem is they move out of areas once the coyotes come in and run them out so they are a bit harder to find because of things like that. We have coons and groundhog the way yous have fox there, so coon and chucks are a more common find than foxes are. -

General lee my post wasn't directed at you it was for foxdropper. My point was people do a lot of talking about things they haven't experienced , so how do they come up with these assumptions about things? -

I don't think anyone said we have better terriers than what you guys have there. That would be a foolish statement as all our terriers came from over there, and some good blood has made its way over here as well. I'm not one to talk or assume things I've never done nor seen, I base mine on facts and the fact is if you guys think coon are junk for your black dogs you are talking about things you obviously don't know about. A coon is a good animal every bit as good as our fox and better imo. I said our fox as I'm not going to say about yours as I've never been there to hunt. -

Thanks Rich appreciate it, I think we're seeing there are a few guys in the states doing proper work with the dogs. Your dog looks proper as well. Hopefully we'll be able to get together for a good days hunting this winter. -

I'm by no means offended. I simply responded to your post about you are surprised that 1/4 serious terrier men didn't respond to you so seems you came across wrong. Anyhow rich I do work my dogs and I'm no internet hunter and also know you work yours as well. I only posted stating I felt coons were a good animal to hunt , I know hogs are a good animal to hunt also. As I stated earlier who cares as long as the dogs are hunting. -

Hey Richlee , I didn't realize you were directing your post at me as far as going out for a day of hunting I have no problem hunting my dogs with anyone. I'll go ahead and extend the offer to you as well , so there you go anytime you want to hunt some of these coons you let me know. It seems you groundhog diggers are always trying to prove they are harder than coon lol... I'm very confident in my dogs so you are barking up the wrong tree. We will be out the whole winter getting coon just in case you have a tight schedule going for yourself. As I stated in my previous post in my opinion the coo -

Pinave good way of putting it. You are right about your location depends on what game you are digging mainly. It doesn't really matter what you are digging , I think the main thing is to be giving the dogs work. I'm not trying to get into no debate with anyone it just blows my mind when people assume you only get coon in barns and or say a coon is easy game that's the farthest thing from the truth. In the north you get plenty of coon in barns and in the ground as well. We've dug to plenty of coon during the winter time and also get plenty out of barns in the winter months too. -

Groundhogs require a very small terrier, as far as a test hogs are good in the right earth but I still say the coon is on a different level. -

Rippem, I have heard of char smith. I also know about barn season vrs ground season, as far as getting coon in the ground it's very common in the area I'm from as they take over old ground hog holes even in the winter coon go to ground as well. That's just my personal experience with the coons , I hear others say the same as you that it's uncommon to get coon in the ground on a regular basis but as I said in my area it's common to get them from the ground. I've worked plenty of both game with my dogs and I prefer to hunt coons with mine as they are a stronger test for the dog I believe. -
I took a look at some of his bull terrier's , they are very fit working style dogs. You don't see that type of BT anymore.

I never hear of any good Russell's here and that's a sad day for our country to say we have more women digging than men. What type of work are they doing with the Russell's? I'm just curious to hear. I seen a couple decent Russell's work around 2010 that came from a old farmer but had no idea of how they were bred. -

We have some good guys giving the dogs real work here in the states, we also have some more that do nothing with them. I personally know a few good terrier men here that don't run around trying to be in the spotlight of things. I think in the last couple years some strong blood has been sent over and are going well. We all hunt different game here depending on where you are from. I'm from an area that has lots of coon , groundhog , I personally prefer hunting coon with mine. As far as groundhog dogs they require them to be very small which is not enough dog for coons. -
Hey Neil I know 1 of the 2 men you are reffering to that came over from the states to see JP. The one guy had told me he has not had that blood for years so I would imagine it would be well diluted by now and not pure JP anymore. I'd say this guys dog may have the blood in the dog but would be way back in the pedigree if it was down from them two men.
