  1. Once upon a time, just down the road from here, I was served the most delicious cottage pie, it was made with venison from a roe deer. To this day I have yet to try making one with venison, and unfortunately I am unable to ask the person who made it for me for the recipe. BUT, I will be having friends in from Horsey for the weekend, and I would love to attempt to make one for us to have for dinner one evening.

My problem is the length of time to cook the venison before putting it in the pie, so as not to undercook or overcook the meat by the time the whole cooking process is complete. I also wonder what herbs/spices do you use in the venison filling ? I abhor rosemary, but other than that I am open to your suggestions.

Thank you in advance for your help,

    Lynn

Can be a blessing and a curse, a one way road to heaven or hell, the where depends on many factors in your life, most of which you have absolutely no control over. If you think about it, in the end, we have way too many things we lose control over, and not enough give a damn to dwell on it, a blessing lies in the latter.

When you start posting dribble like this lol.

Don't worry....As you get older, you develop a thick skin - comes in handy on here !

I hear you, and you are right about the thick skin, been developing it slowly through the years. I don't pay people to like me or appreciate my thoughts or opinions, I will leave that up to the politicians of the world, and there are more than enough of them already.

Thanks for the tip ! :D

Sorry if i offended you i was just playing no hard feelings i hope.

    No Sir, none at all.

  6. Hi Lynn. As above..You may have noticed that the guys on here like picture stories (mainly because they can't read haha). Looking forward to your adventures especially the new dog. Any idea what you will have?. Jok.

The dog acquisition is truly a dilemma. I would like to have a Weimaraner or a Vizsla, or both, as a youngster my family had both breeds, but my heart is leaning more towards a Border Terrier AND a Parson Russell Terrier. I have read quite a lot on both breeds and believe they would make good companions for me.

I think that raising them together from pups would make for an easier introduction for them both rather than getting adult dogs who already have their "way about them", if you know what I mean. I am not sure though whether I would want females, or males, or a combination thereof, and I am not too sure I would want to use them for breeding purposes. I would also like to have them travel with me when circumstances allow, and to be comfortable with it, another hurdle to conquer when the time comes.

So, there we have it, most likely a Border Terrier AND a Parson Russell Terrier. Any suggestions, sharing of the knowledge of the breeds, tips on the selection of a pup, and the raising and care thereof, would be truly appreciated

  7. Welcome, an enjoyable introduction, and I look forward to seeing your posts, especially any pictures you can share of your new homestead and surrounding views.

Is it in Wales or Canada ?

It is in North Wales, just outside of Llangollen. Far enough away from Llangollen to enjoy the peace of the countryside, but close enough to walk into town to spend Saturday afternoons at my favorite cafe and bookstore, which easily becomes a joyful habit.

  8. There is lots to offer at the Midland Game Fair, and too much to choose from for buying, in a good way of course :D

This year it will be held September 16th and 17th.

Here is a link to the game fair, site http://www.midlandgamefair.co.uk/, if you follow it through you could check on the trade stands that were there last year, and it might give you an idea of what kind of kit might be on offer again this year.

  10. My name is Lynn.

I should have introduced myself months ago when I first joined the site, for that I do apologize, but life has been busy with family, and traveling most of the spring/summer/fall, and has only just slowed down now that the holidays have passed.

Within the last year I have purchased a house and a bit of land which I hope this spring will start to be a retirement home for myself. I hope to create a small "farm like" environment, and in the process become a LOT more knowledgeable about country living, DIY country house projects, and much more.

I would really like to become better acquainted with the Living Off The Land & Game Cooking section of the forum and the members who would be willing to share their knowledge with me.

In the upcoming months I will be seeking help in acquiring a companion in the form of a dog, and I am sure there are many here that could lend some sage advise.

Actually, if no one would mind I would like to wander through other sections of the forum reading threads that peek my interest like the wildlife photography section, the fishing section, and others.

I am glad to be here, and I hope that somewhere in my aging brain I have some shred of knowledge or wisdom I could share that could benefit my fellow members.

Thank you for taking the time to read my intro.
