How to Build a Larsen Trap

Recommended Posts

I build mine out of 12-14gauge 1"x1" wire and crimp the sheets together. Overall it makes a 30" x30" sized trap with it being 14" tall. I get the crimps from moncaster wire and the springs I try to get have longer tails than average larsen springs, it just makes them easier to attach to the trap.

Because the springs were only £3 but the postage was £4 I thought I'd get another just incase I needed them, £4 basically for a letter!!

This is ideal, just what I have been looking for! We have 6 or 7 magpies that regularly visit our's and our neighbours gardens and last year they cleaned out more than 10 songbird nests of either eggs. Aiming to keep them at bay over winter and early spring and this looks just the job!
