Weihrauch silencer internals - Curlers? ;)

Recommended Posts

To quote something Buster321c said:

Somebody i know sent me this info on a HW silencer that had been taken apart -

I recently took my Weihrauch silencer apart, in order to confirm or deny report of the inclusion of HAIR CURLERS in the construction.

I can now confirm the construction as containing two and a half pink hair curlers .

Around each piece was a wrap of reasonably high density polyester wadding.

The arrangement is as follows:

Curler (64.5mm. long x 21mm. od)

thin steel washer with 7mm hole

Curler (32mm. long x 21mm. od)

thin steel washer with 7mm hole

Curler (64.5mm. long x 21mm. od.)

Ok, essentially I've taken apart my frankly terrible excuse for a "sound moderator" made by SMK. The internals are a joke. It's literally one chamber - that being a piece of pipe with holes drilled in it, surrounded by foam, with sellotape around it. I aim to change this. Oh yes.

Now, I hear that the Weihrauch sound mods are curlers. (as above) Is this true? And if so could you please take a few pictures of the internals, so I can make sure I'm getting the right thing. The internal size of the SMK silencer is 20mm, so if I get the go-ahead I'll be buying these.

Any help/advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I had every intention of doing this and posting the result . I did mess a lot with the silencer , but could`nt get hold of a decibel meter / reader type thing . I made extra chambers in the silencer , got some washers form b+q some scourer stuff and just messed till it sounded quieter . It works a treat , sorry if ive not posted the result or any instructions on what ive done , best thing to do is mess yourself atb Buster

I have made one for a rim fire using 3 washers with a 6.5mm hole in them and it worked well. Body turned out of aluminium and I made some springs to keep the washer in their place and used heat resistant foam rubber between them as well but left the cambers quite large in diameter.

I found out my silencer is actually the Parker Hale universal, so I'm even less impressed. Great though, I'll be doing that then. Sounds like it works a treat. Scotch Brite work ok? I've heard it mentioned many a time for suppressors.

Ye scotch brite , put it round a spring ( spring keeps hole clear for pellet ) then i wound wool round the outside to keep it compact and get a nice fit into the tube .

The main problem for me is that my silencer is a pathetic universal one. That means that half of it is just to keep it ON the barrel. So I've only got 63mm from the end of the barrel (where the bullet enters the silencer) to when it exits. >.<

Have designed my own 3 stage mod.

Below is a snapshot of the cutaway.

post-31957-1244579768_thumb.jpg

The first section is a perforated tube, the viod between that and the outer body is loosely filled with scotchbrite.

The second stage is basicaly a series of conical washers which deflect and slow the exhaust.

The third stage consists of three foam 'wipes' which is the only point the round makes any form of contact inside the mod.

A brief report is on my website. http://jnyengineering.co.uk/gpage5.html

and am now talking to a nearby engineering company to machine a small number for evaluation and for costing at a number of plastic moulding companies.

Wish me luck

Mate, your idea's flawed.

ANY contact with the round is bad. You'd never be able to have it machined well enough for that from steel, never mind plastic.

You must have clearance for the round to pass through.

Cheers.

The round only contacts the foam wipe, It's the final part of the silencing process.

There are many technical publications on the subject which mention these.

How do these "wipes" affect accuracy, surely to only contact you wan is in the barrel, anything else would affect the spin on the pellet or distaught its shape.

T

THE WIPES DON'T HAVE ANY EFFECT AS THE ARE FOAM
