I am very keen on salmon, sea trout, brown trout, rainbow trout and Pike fishing mostly fly, but I am also on occasions, where the water state does not suit fly fishing take out a worm or do a bit of spinning.
I also enjoy tying my own flies and spinning lures. It is so much more rewarding catching a fish on something you have created.
Wildfowling and spring air rifle hunting is a new addiction of mine, since moving out of the city and getting my shotgun license.
I just love being outdoors and at one with nature.
  1. Sorry guys, I don't want to get into no arguments on here. It is not for the lack of trying nor the to fact I go round wearing tracksuit bottoms when asking for permision. It is usualy because the farmers have people already shooting the ground. I understand it was a long shot posting on here. I am sorry that I am new to this forum and have not put up much posts, but I personaly don't think that a snide comment slating new commers to the forum over and over deserves a post rating. Matthew
  2. Hi folks I am just at the research stage of looking for a suitable gun dog for wildfowling. I am highly allergic to dogs, cats and horses. I was just wondering if anyone with or is around people with allergies has got or had any experiance with GWP's? Do they make good retrievers? Are the suitible for wildfowling? I would like to be around them for some time before I commit to a purchase, just to be sure I can live with one, I dont want to break hearts. I also understand there is differiant kinds of allergies i.e. hair, skin and mites. I am not quite sure how to
  3. Oh thank you so much! your so kind! I thought you being a laird, would be to busy to be trolling around on this site, alongside all the other muppets that seem to be on this site giving stupid and pointless answers to sensible questions.
  4. I'm sure there will be bottle of a fine malt in it every now and again!! as I do with my other permisions I have no problems with giving mate. I just can't give someone permision to shoot on land just because I can. You know the score bud. cheers Matthew
  5. Thanks for the advice Charlie, The problem being it is the reason I am allowed to shoot this ground is that it is my partners family's ground and there is already a good few guns on it. He would not take anyone else on, so that is not really an option. Thanks again. Matthew
  6. Hi there I am looking for a airgun or shotgun permision for rabbits, crows, pigeon in or around the Ellon area of Aberdeenshire. I do already have some permisions a little further afield, which is a little further than I would like to travel. Refrances are available on request. I am a basc member and also a member of Yewca and the adaa. All property respected. Cheers Matthew
  7. Hi folks Just to let you know that the Ythan estuary in Aberdeenshire is now owned and managed by a club. YEWCA was set up before the start of this season and unfortuanatly all the members places have been taken now. Just to let you know, before you travel up to be let down. Cheers Matthew
  8. I am looking for permission for spring rifle and/or shotgun shooting in and around Aberdeenshire. live in ellon but would be able to travel. Rabbit, pigeon, crow. Basc, club member Reference available on request. Thankyou Matthew
  9. Hi folks Thanks for the advice so far. Stroller as far as what i'm alergic to it is all of the above I think! The alargy tablets help for my hayfever but nothing else unfortuanatly! I hear pigs are ideal pets for alargies but dont think they would make a retriver!!!lol! I certainly would not want to take on a dog without 100% knowing it woud not be suitable. Cheers Matthew
  10. I bought one and had to take it back twice to the shop as it just never fired!! the second time time I went back the guy in the shop went through four or five they had in stock all with the same problem!! had to swap the chokes from gun to gun as they would not fit!! Had a problem with unloading shells aswell (jamming). STAY WELL CLEAR! I did buy another hastan O/U and have not had a problem with that though. I do belive that haston (edgar brothers) themselves are very good when it comes to costomer service ie. warrantys ect.

  12. I am new to shooting and would like to buy a gun dog.The problem being I am extreamly alergic to dogs. Does anyone know of any suitable dogs for someone with alergies? I need to find this out before I try and convince my partner to get one, as I work on the oil rigs and she would be the one having to look after it whilst i'm away. I would imagine I would have to spend a little time with the dogs before commiting to buy one. I have been around some dog that i'm not so bad with one day and the next I can't see for my eyes bulging out of my head!! Any addvice would be greatly appric
  13. No deffianatly not garganey. it was most likely female widgeon. I do agree with brushing up on ID skills, don't get me wrong tho Im not someone who shoots at anything that flaps withinn 50yds of me! I would rather not take a shot than fire off 2-4 shots hoping to hit something like some people! Matthew
  14. Thanks Les I am shooting an estuary in n/e scotland. I am using steel shot 0's and bismuth 3's with a 1/2 choke and a 1/4 choke. have managed to get them in close enough a couple of time's but still no joy with the geese! I managed a couple of blue winged teal in 2 shots a few weeks back! I was extreamly impressed! I just need to get my eye in again as it has been a few years since I have done the clays( which I was pretty good at) I know it is totaly diferent, but getting use to my gun would help me out a fair bit I think. Thanks again folks. all info is good for me! Matthew
  15. Remi, you just at least doubled my knowledge on shooting for geese! I greatly appriciate this advice. hope to get out tomorow as the wind is up compared to the last few days. I hope to get a few more shots off compared to the last twice I have been out. only managed 1 shot as I could not find my second trigger! Damn amature! Thanks again Matthew
