  1. ...a matter that has been the subject of debate for a long time in a lot of quarters, the differences in the physical product are small, some say microscopic, the legal difference is large! Don't worry I am going to give the SST's a go they say they are also very accurate, so just waiting to see if my rifles can group them now, I will let you know how I get on.
  2. I have changed my order to the Hornady SST it's only 95gr but I reckon it will have plenty of knock down power after talking it over with some people on here that have used them, thanks for the help.
  3. My rifles are A Bruno .22 with a moderator A Tikka T3 .222 with a Ziess victory Scope, a ASE Utra mod and a Harris bipod A Sauer 202 (synthetic soft touch) .243 with a Ziess 3-12 x 50 a A-tec mod and Harris bipod A Rigby .275 no idea what the scope is its ancient! A Sauer 202 elegance .270 with a Swarovski 3-12x50 with a A-tec mod and a Harris bipod I have an old BSA airsporter airgun for shooting smuts out of the shed. Now the shooting season is over can't wait to get out with the rifles more regularly!
  4. The RWS 100g stabilise ok so I was hoping I would manage to stabilise the 105g bullet,
  5. I have a tikka t3 .222 which is a good little rifle the only thing I find is it's shorter in the stock tha n my other rifles I don't know if it's just me that thinks that? I have 2 Sauer rifles one is an Elegance 202 in .270 calibre and one is the new soft touch synthetic 202 in .243 calibre they are more pricey but in my opinion well worth it the single trigger can be pushed forward to turn it into a hair trigger which I use 99% of the time it's fantastic! The other thing is the way the bolt locks into the action if anything goes wrong it will blow out of the end of the barrel and not in your
  6. Looking into switching from RWS 100g rounds to Geco 105g rounds I will be firing them through my Sauer which has a 1 in 10 twist. Has any one used these rounds and have any opinions on their effectiveness, quality etc? Are they quite a consistent round?
  7. Good guess but a peer David has a much longer face an thicker antlers. And they are only found in parks only 2000 left! Definitely a fallow buck.
  8. A 1.7 would be a good round does not do too much damage to the wee beastie's.although I managed to shoot 2 with one shot last year when the haggis calf (a "wee yin") ran along side its mother just as I squeezed the trigger to haggis with 1 shot not a bad day!
  9. My other top three items would be: 1. My teckel a great little hunting companion, she often smells them before I see them, and if any thing goes wrong she finds em! 2. My new ridge line monsoon II smock what a brilliant bit of kit in foul weather ( although a little sweaty in warm weather but we don't get much of that in Scotland! ) 3. A sturdy walking stick can get prity steep were I go so a third leg is handy! Of coarse this does not include rifle, scope, binos etc as you ain't going stalking without them your just walking!
  10. Lucky git! I say give it a chance to work, just imagine the fun you could have taking it with you too the woods, it would be supper sorted most days!
  11. The ideal dog I reckon would be a huntaway I went hunting boar in NZ with a mate and we had 6 huntaway's with us a top notch all rounder. Or perhaps a GWHP? I use a teckel for my following up but don't think she would be much use on a wounded boar! Good luck in your search.
  12. Depending on your budget try company's like" CID Galbraith, bidwells, savilles, they can all do stalking packages in scotland I, try and go on one every year for hinds on the west coast of Scotland, roughly £190 a day, but well worth it an amazing expierence.
  13. Thanks for all the advice she is coming on really well.
  14. yeh that is the obvious answer but when you need to work her on a rough day it ain't exactly practical....
