anti bark collars do they work?

Recommended Posts

If a dog has a strong temperament or is physically tough a spray or sonic collar simply won't work, they are perhaps usefull on some dogs but I still stand by what I say that an electric collar is more successfull...............

Whilst I have used the shock collar (triggered by the vibration of the barking dog's throat) with great success on the Airedale, terriers and certain lurchers, BEWARE of using it on over sensitive, highly strung animals: got one lurcher here who went absolutely mental and didn't stop screaming until I took it off! Not an easy or happy thing to go through.

So the sort of neurotic or highly strung animal that yelps at every imaginary sting or shock would be a basket case within minutes if subjected to that sort of treatment.

The collar sits on the voicebox and is only activated by the vibration of the vocal chords so won't be set off by other dogs.

I picked up a couple off Ebay sime and they're a nightmare for fireing off when any other dogs bark close by. I stripped one out and it has a small hole at the front which picks up the sound! I can clap hands near it and it fires up giving a shock, not ideal for the poor dog
