Guest SJM
He will grow out of it, it sounds like normal puppyish enthusiasm, they are that chuffed they have caught a bunny they do a few laps of honour with it try not to get annoyed, stay calm and either ignore the pup until its stopped running around and then call it to you, or you could try crouching down and calling, or even running off in the opposite direction to get the pup to come to you quicker. Remember lots of praise when he does come back. Is that him in your avatar? he looks a lot like my bitch pup Quote Link to post

Muddyboots 2
You say he was retreving ok and right back to hand. Are you now going out lamping with mates and their lurchers, because this will ruin a good young lurcher for he will start his retrive to you then see the other dog or dogs and will start to circle you and your mates +dogs, and the more you try to call him in the wider his circle will come.Try just taking him or her out on its own again!, I think you will find that with a little new training your Lurcher will be back to its self again. All the best, Muddy. Quote Link to post

digger63 3
Some sensible advice from the other posters there, Her's another trick to try,but not allways easy.Wait until the dog catchs a rabbit in the daytime jump behind the nearest wall/bush and hide so he cant see you but you can see him,the dog will be concentrating on his kill at first so leave him a minuite then give him a call, when he looks round and cant see you he should come looking if you have a decent bond with him, when he gets pretty close come out of hiding and encourage him to come to you, hopefully he's that glad to see you he forgets about the rabbit and comes to hand, then its a case of really praising him. Like i said not that easy to do,but it can work, hope this helps. Quote Link to post
