Ticks, Fleas on Ferrets

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Im a new member on the hunting forum.

I recently got hold of 2 working ferrets thats i bought over the other valley from me, and he said that he was using them on rabbits. You can tell they dont get handled much but they have been pretty good with me so far. And the reason for sale was he hasnt bothered with them in months. They are about 18months old both of them both hobs.

I have had them for 1 week now, cracking pair, just concerned and would like some help or advice as they were scratching an aweful lot about 2-3 days ago.

Holding one of them today and seen a big tick on the back of its neck, so decided to bath them coz god knows when they were bathed last and checked for ticks etc. But the amount we had off both of them were unbelieveable!!!

I think they had been on there a while as there were big ones and baby ticks latched on to their skin and the size of some of the fleas you wouldnt believe!!! thats without the baby fleas i picked off them.

So i bathed them and used tick, fleas shampoo and got rid of most of all the ones that i could see.

How they are still alive i really dont know with the amount of ticks that were buried into them.

Any one got any help or advice to cut down or completely get rid of them all!!!

Thanks guys Rhian

ah thanks for the advice x x

Your welcome, you wont use loads on each ferret , just squirt some on a disposable glove & rub it on the coat , it should be more cost effective than buying seperate things for each parasite as well

if you have a "pets at home" storwe near you, go there, and book an appointment for either ferret to see the nurse, they have to see the fert, but simply tell her you want frontline spray, might be cheaper than seeing a normal vet, and while there, pick up a set of tick pullers
