i have been reading a few posts lately about people puting up stud dogs.their are a few experienced terrierman on hear and i would like to know what they think a proven stud dog would be.

to me is hard to ever say you have a proven dog but i would say to breed of a dog he would have to have been tryed in big earths in tight places done the time been in earths and found were other dogs were not able and have alot of digs under their belts and would have to be from well breed stuff .everyone has a diffrent opinion on this i would like to hear.

proven stud dogs one that produces good offspring.

Simple answer matey, is that we all want different thing's from our dog's.

Purely hunting ability is up there but so is coat type & line, build & colour.

Because there is a choice, folk will make a choice based on what they like, same as buying a car.

Plus it's easier to find a Stud that has done a bit and looks right, than a Stud that has done a lot and is right.

Just my opinion mind ;)

everyone has different standards in a dog, but a proven dog even though i dont ow n 1 or never have would have to be as already mentioned, a dog that has done the time aground untill dug to. i know it dont happen on every dig but a dog that you could dig 1 hole to instead of 2 or 3 or maybe more, a dog that finds in the hardest of places where other dogs have failed to find! a dog thats stuck to its quarry in places where other dogs havent been able to cope with the experienced quarry! a dog that produces good/as good or better pups then himself! a dog that puts a smile on a terriermans face after every dig! a dog that has had alot of digs under his belt, to me a dog that gets hammerd every time aground and can only be used 10/15 times a season in my eyes is good but no good to me, id rather a dog who gets pepperd and can be used alot more...

Of course its just as important to look at the dogs relatives, as much as the dog itself, parents grandparents, siblings from previous litters. The dog doesnt have to be rock hard as long as hes got the vigour and hardiness, you know the type, they just look indestructible.
