victor 10
hello, i just got homne then with my newrifel, now i was told by 2 peopel that using a .22lr round in this here .22short would fiune. and the diffrance is the length of the bullet so i thor ok, ive brought a brick of winchester lazers and i had one shot today. the shell got stuk in breech ( see photo as it's a rooling action) so jsut finaly got it out and going to buy a brick of .22 shorts, but could this just have been a gimped casing or something?? i spent 60$ on thease .22lr rounds and know no one with a .,22lr hahaha thankx for reading Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
thankx for reading Chap..it was hard work, don't they have spell checkers your way.....anyway, shorts will work in a .22lr, but there are often loading/cycling problems!!!! If you have a gun specifically chambered in .22Short you need to use .22Short, NOT .22lr, the chamber is not designed for the longer cartridge! Quote Link to post
victor 10
okthanks thats all i needed to know, im not using any more LR rounds. but what is the real diffrance. a few mm you know?? Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
A few mm where rifles are concerned makes one hell of a difference. In centrefire terms it could mean an entirely different cartridge! Check the inside of your rifle very carefully since firing that LR round in there to check there are no signs of damage. Clean is very thoroughly and check the chamber and beginning of the rifling. She looks a classic old gun too, worth looking after. So don't fire any more LR in there!! SS Quote Link to post
victor 10
cleaned and checked it arfter still 100%, im sure there are a few antique gun colectors out on this sight that know more about it all i know is it's from 1860 and it's a rolling lock action, i did know the model and brand but dont any more cnan find out but then id have to open the safe lol. it's got a hexagonal barell ( incase you didnt see it) and rifeling, dont know when thay started but ive used 22short rounds it before with the previous owner to shoot barn yard rats grat in auccracey Edited March 17, 2009 by victor Quote Link to post
