now that season is nearly closed i wont be doing that much hunting i might go out once or twice a week for a lamp with the dog so can anyone tell me is gain dog nuts with 20% protein enough for my dogs was goin to give him 28% protein but wasnt sure if it might be too much for him when his doin very little any help welcome lads

try and keep the protein up mate, and excercise him regularly, ill send you a list of decent drys ok.

i dont see a problem with 20% protein ,if your not working your dogs it should be ok i ususlly drop the protein lrvrl once the season has ended

any of mine not in full work get dropped to approx 20%, then as work load increases as does the meat i add and food to a higher protein level , too much high protein will lead to skin and possibly stomach problems

A friend of mine gave their young Borzoi an overdose of protein nearly fecked it right up. Started fitting and getting aggressive, was diagnosed wrong at first to be something else and was gonna cost an arm & leg on medication for the rest of its life. Luckily enough after a vet change and more tests that ran to hundreds of £'s turned out to be something to do with the food she fed it and its protein content. She has to watch its diet now and the food it is now on is quite expensive anything else she feeds it gives it the shits, will try and find out what the original diagnosis was and will put it on here.....

racing dogs get 27% to 30% roughly cant speak for everyone lol

 

 

if u do alot off work or exercise 27/ 28% would be perfect,,,,( chudly,s racer,,,,,red mills racer or beta ) will do the job

 

 

i know a lot off pll,s cut the protien down when dog,s not getting much work,,,but i tend not to if i can help it ,once i have mine on a brand that iam happy with ,,i keep them on it for most off there life,,,and add meat when ever i can

lower per cent need meat added, higher the percent dont need meat but each to there own,gain record breaker and australian are good feeds none need meat added

Gain is not a name I know ,but 20% protein for a dog not doing regular work is adequate.Mine get 28% greyhound meal plus raw rabbit ,during the working season but I drop the protein level down once the season ends, otherwise you get a dog "all dressed up with nowhere to go".I. E full of bounce with no way to work it off.

It all depends, when you look at a bag of food for your dog, don't just look at the Protein percentage, look at how much of that food it will take for the dog to get the protein it needs.

 

Like it could be 20% protein based for 100 grams of the food. Some other foods might be 20% but for only 70 grams of the food.

 

Feeding too much protein can have a bad effect on the kidneys, but I would imagine that would take a long time to take effect and a stupid amount of protein being pumped into the dogs body.

 

Besides the high protein, you should have a decent amount of fat as well, as dogs rely on the fat intake for energy, like we do with Carbs.
