FAC variation

Recommended Posts

Well today i had a conversation with my FEO, i enquired about having my .22rimmy on an open ticket and having a .243 to use on fox and deer.

His advice was as follows an open for a rimmy depends on the amount of additional land that has been put up and how much ammo has been used since granting of fac, fair enough.

I then asked about the .243 to which he said he thought there would be no problem in getting a .223 for fox but that I would have to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of deer to be granted the .243? I mentioned about the DSC 1 course and he said that if i had this there would be no problem in getting the .243.

I have told him that i have been mentored by a friend who is shooting with a .270 who is willing to vouch for me, to which he said go for the variation with a wish list and see how it goes? Is this correct?

Gooner, the amount of land that you have has no bearing on having an open ticket at all.I would however go along with the fact that you should be using a certain amount of ammo to actually justify having one on an open ticket, although,I am pretty certain that this is not necessary as far as the law goes.

And,it really makes me laugh when they say you can have a .223cal but not a .243cal as the only difference is the fact that you can shoot all/any deer with the .243cal,and,can shoot Muntjac/Chinese Water Deer in England, and,Roe in Scotland with the .223cal.Making you go for either the 'Mentor' or the 'DSC1' is also not a legal requirement,so,they are overstepping their bounds by doing so.If you want some advice on what you should do then you should join the 'Scottish Association for Country Sports' they will guide you, and,if necessary will lliase with your Firearms Dept. on your behalf. They also do a good deal if you are a member of this forum I believe.......hope this is of some help.....Martin.
