no mate your turret on your scope (the bit you twist) should have a tiny screw in the middle and a little tiny mark on the edge were it is at zero an a mark on the scope itself the circle bit round the outside of the turret loosen the screw an line them up then start again if that dont work then go 2 your gun shop and see if he can fix it if u have the manual for your scope it should tell you how 2 reset it mate all the best hw97

What gun's it on, mate? Is it a new set-up?

it is a smk 19 air rifle with standard scope mounts and richter optik 6x40 scope. it also has a silencer if that helps.

Was it working ok before, or have you changed something?

it has been set up perfectly before. i got it in october last year and it has been set up for a while but i noticed about a month ago it was out so i got my grandad to set it up a few days ago and he couldnt get it down any further so my uncle tried but he cant get it any thurther down. i cant either. i havent changed anything.

If the gun's working ok and your silencer's lined up, sounds like it's most likely a scope problem. Take it off and give it a shake, if it rattles it's probably fooked. If your shot's are grouping well though, even if they're off the mark it could be ok. If they're hitting high, try shimming the front of the scope up, tin foil works well as it wont squash when you tighten the mounts. If low, shim the scope under the rear mount. Make sure the silencer's lined up, if it's had a knock the pellets can catch the sides.

it is doing good groups. id say about 1/2 an inch at 30 yards.

Good going! Try shimming the scope. What you need to do is move the the scope's body towards the error so that it's back into it's normal range of adjustment. Place the shims between the tube of the scope and the mount to shift where it rests when the whole thing's tightened up. Good luck, mate!

Hi Ian,

Try having a look >here<, you may just find it of help to you mate.

In order for you to 'reset' the scope, I would suggest you try and centralize the crosshairs again and try going onwards from there - if you read through the thread, you will find all the information you should need right there.

IMHO, you shouldn't need to shim the scope mounts really - you have a decent scope, and if you recentralize the crosshairs, and remount the scope on the mounts, i can see no reason why you shouldn't be able to achieve a zero point without shims on the scope mounts?:thumbs:

I hope this helps you some?

Regards,

Grim.

Sound advice, but if the barrel does not quite line up with the action and the scope hasn't enough adjustment to cope, you've got to change the mounting position. There's only a limited amount of adjustment in any scope and if things won't line up, you have to compensate some other way.

Folks have been makeing a goodly sum for a long time selling mounts to compensate for HW 'barrel droop'.........

I hope the advice given to you on this thread helps you, Ian.

Good luck, mate!

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers.

Fair comment Andy. ;)

I wasn't saying there is no need for shims, or fancy mounting brackets at all , ever, like. I was merely suggesting one way of trying things out without the need for shims or outlay of more money when it may not be needed just yet, if you see what i meant? The way i suggest in the thread has always worked for me, and i have never had any problems using that method at all. That is why i thought it may help to suggest the OP had a look at it and gave it a try? :)

My own view is that shims are not needed when something is failing for the first time or every time, in fact - sometimes all that is indeed needed is a 'return to basics'. if that should fail, then yes, try other methods out by all means. :)

I hope this clarifies things?

Grim.

strip it off and start from scratch... sometimes things loosen a bi over time but just ant noticeable at a glance.. check all the other screws on the gun too, and check the stock holes for ware.(standard issue proseedure...helps to iliminate a few probs before you start.)
