Mr_Logic 5
I'm looking at buying a Remington 700 LVSF in 204 Ruger. It has a blind box magazine, which I've not had before. I prefer a detachable magazine under normal circumstances, but this time round I wasn't too worried - the alternative is a Howa for about the same price (Remy is used) which has a hinged floorplate - used to them and it would be OK. Thing is, I prefer the Remington apart from the mag, so how are these to live with? A pain at night when you get back from lamping? Worth the hassle as the rifle is so good? Horrible, avoid? Really not sure, have had no experience at all with them. Answers on a postcard please Quote Link to post
Guest remmy
thats what i had on my old stock mr logic, then i changed to a floor plate job much easier, you will get used to it but i do get on better with the floor plate, Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
I wouldn't really know, not owning a centerfire, but I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem, you would just have to cycle the 3 or 4 rounds out of the mag that's all.... Quote Link to post
Guest remmy
its not a problem you just have to get used to popping them out with the bolt, floor plate is better, but if the rifle shoots why change just get a good hs stock with a floor plate, job sorted, thats what i did. Mr_Logic 5
Hmmm, then it looks like it's a straight fight between the Remington and the Howa. Howa's new, Remy's not - not sure on barrel life in 204. Hadn't thought about it, as assumed it'd be a new rifle. Stock's much better on Remington, Howa's action will be smoother. Hmmm... this might come down to a coin toss! Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
He said because he's doing up his house and won't use it much. Tbh, he shoots factory ammo with it at £1.50 each... But the thought had crossed my mind as a pointer to the Howa! Quote Link to post
