Guest reload
Has anyone had any good results with any Deer Attractants..? Or will just aniseed and salt licks do? Any info gratefully received Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,102
I have never intentionally put down any attractants but i have on many ocasions seen roe around pheasant feeders laced with aniseed ,more so than plain corn .The licks are red herrings in my eyes .If they are there then the deer will lick them but if their not do the deer go looking for them ,i think not .Same with livestock ,they appear interested just because they are there and its something to do .Enough minerals in the browse they take in . rob reynolds uk 3
goat mix is good ,pony carrats at £2 a sack is good but build a deer feeder so the ground birds cant peck at it ,also hay ,buy a big bale of hay of the farmer or better still get him to drop one off for free were you think they are coming out ,keeps them there till you get a shot off heres a few iv found to help bring them in molasses is good but get it from your fishing shop mix it in with the goat mix ..you should get your aniseed from there as well http://www.okeene.com/downloads/PVC_Deer_Feeders.pdf http://www.bossbuck.com/ http://video.google.co.uk/videosearch?hl=e...7&ct=title# http://www3.sympatico.ca/konecny/deerfeeder.htm http://www.whitetaildeer-management-and-hu...er-feeders.html http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...rset=ISO-8859-1 Edited February 18, 2009 by rob reynolds uk Quote Link to post
Guest reload
Cheers Rob, I am not sure a feeder would be ideal, but may try a homemade one. I am keen to go for a mollases mixed with goat mix. Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
I have never intentionally put down any attractants but i have on many ocasions seen roe around pheasant feeders laced with aniseed ,more so than plain corn .The licks are red herrings in my eyes .If they are there then the deer will lick them but if their not do the deer go looking for them ,i think not .Same with livestock ,they appear interested just because they are there and its something to do .Enough minerals in the browse they take in . The licks do work in areas of poor browsing, especially in the areas i stalk..... also keeps the reds in velvet about as they get all the minerals they need to produce good antler quality. however if no minerals are not needed then the licks etc. will not be touched...... anything you can do to keep the deer in the area is never a waste in my eye's... snap, Quote Link to post
