Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Had a call from a farmer mate to say that there were loads of fox tracks around his free range sheds and that could i have a look out sometime so tonight i made the effot ,i effort it was ,to have a look .The first shed is situated on a bend in the lane leading to the farm and as i drove up in the snow i caught the eye of charlie around the shed .Parked just up a bit and silently got the kit together .Crept back and had a look around the gatepost .There he was about 20 yds out in the field and very conspicuous without the lamp against the snow .He ran as expected so i flicked the lamp on and squeaked softly giving enough time to get on the 'pod for a shot .He stopped about 40 yds and paused for a second too long and he was mine .A well furred dog fox but no giant .As i collected him the heavens dumped the start of that nights snow fall in huge flakes making lamping a waste of time .Took him up to the farm house and got a tray of eggs in return . cyclonebri1 8
I had an old shooting mate years back, he had lots of poultry farms to cover. Only ever had the 12 bore. His preferred tactic was to tye a dead chicken to his leg on a 20 yd string upwind of the pens. Covered himself in straw and slept. He got a few and suprisingly died with both feet still attached.
