Yes Dawn, i got info from an American site.

More to the point, why do the BBC REFUSE to broadcast the Rottweiler?

Oh and Pedigree Petfoods did NOT pull out because of ANY TV program!

I dont know for sure why the BBC refuse to broadcast the Rotty but maybe it is because of these genetic ailments they suffer from:-

Aortic stenosis

Elbow dysplasia

Hip dysplasia

Cataracts

Cervical vertebral instability

Deafness

Demodicosis

Entropion

Hypertrophic osteodystrophy

Hypoadrenocorticism

Lymphedema

Neuroaxonal dystrophy

Panosteitis

Progressive retinal atrophy

Retinal dysplasia

von Willebrand's disease

X-linked muscular dystrophy

Entropio

Whereas the breed in your avatar (border terrier, which the BBC has no problem with) only suffers from 3 genetic ailments:-

Cataracts

Fanconi syndrome

Retinal dysplasia

Hi Blake.

Have you got that info from an American site? I have never ever heard of a Rott with CVI, its "Wobblers Syndrome" that Dobermanns get, I had one with it. I also have never heard of a Border with any of the 3 problems you quoted, only one 15yrs old Border which had cataracts from the age of 14, wouldnt class that as an inherited problems though, most old dogs have similar issues.

The most common problem affecting Rotts is bone cancer, it isnt known how or indeed if this problem is inherited or congenital, weird this is not mentioned yet world wide recognised. Thank you for taking the time to find some info though, its appreciated. :) Incidently, when the BBC were approached by Rottweiler Clubs, they couldn't or wouldnt give them a rason for including them. ;)

So many people think Pedigree left because of this program, they didnt. Many months earlier Pedigree turned up at Bournemouth Champ show, put their stand up and took it down again and went home, they, for a good while have NOT been the main sponsors of many of the shows they used to. Pedigree have no hold on the show/breeding world anymore, they sacked all their breed reps (Obviously nothing to do with any TV show!) and took most of their "breeder pick up points" away from the distributors. They suffered at the hands of companies like "Royal Canin" and "James Wellbeloved" and more recently "Nutro" all of whom have taken sales from them in the show and breeding world. They succeeded in their aim to make Pedigree a household name, which it now is. However, they BOUGHT Royal Canin, James Wellbeloved and Nutro, so in fact they are still supporting ALL shows INCLUDING Crufts!!! If they had any thoughts on the TV program they would of pulled ALL their companies wouldnt they, not just the one that most "Pet" people know of! Talking of pets, thats their aim now, the supermarket shelf where the other brands dont reach, they have come up with their "pedigree adoption drive" and guess where all their money is going from this venture? THE KENNEL CLUB charitable Trust!!!!!

Dawn.
